matto - The link to your first video in your comment does not work because the video has been classified as "Private". You need to change the video classification to "Public" so that others can watch it.

Nice work on the scene!
@s_noonan -- Thanks for the excellent suggestions! I especially like the fading arrow idea. Good call!

quote: "it's like trying to get ahead in traffic but always falling behind."

You just described driving through Minnesota on I35 during Rush Hour!

quote: "You have a 2.4M funnel image in your .phz that doesn't seem to be used anywhere. "

You are correct. I was using that funnel for a different game that I never finished. I plan on going through my code and cleaning house some time soon.

Thanks again, my Algodoo friend! :)

Xray

Update: By the way, an easy way to increase points in this game is to just sit with the water nozzle aimed at a good spot on one of the wheels and just wait until a green arrow enables it. Then just sit there with the water spraying on it. If you can get the timing just right, you should be able to score more positive points than negative points. Since the game is not timed, you have lots of time to boost your points!

No problem, because now people know about the delayed publication of the video!

I believe that's why the FICO credit score has a +300 offset. 300 sounds better than ZERO, although they mean the same thing!

Quote: "1. Copy the shell"

What shell? Is the shell one of those dark gray colored rectangles that are stuck to the side of the turret? :s

Quote: "2. Insert the shell into the cannon"

Okay, HOW to do that?

Suggestions: It would be helpful if you would label the important parts of the cannon so that people can understand how they should use them. It would also help a great deal if you were to post a YouTube video of the cannon being loaded and fired.

Thanks
There are no instructions about how to move. This tutorial explains almost nothing at all except what colors to avoid.

Also, games are always more fun when points are included, and maybe have a time clock so that people must hurry before the time runs out.

This is a good start for a game, but it needs a lot more stuff for it to be fun.
s_noonan -- The gui in this scene takes a little getting used to, but once I figured out how it behaves, and how it's "supposed" to work, the controls felt natural. It's a little different from other drawing programs that I have experience with, but overall, it gets the job done, and it's fun to use. Again, nice job!
This chessboard of yours is all wrong. First of all, it needs to be rotated 90 degrees so that a white square is in the lower right hand corner (as the players would see it). Also, the letters and numbers that represent the rows and columns are wrong. Take a look at the Wikipedia entry for how a chessboard is positioned and how the squares are numbered: CHESS BOARD

In the future, before posting your scenes, you really should make sure that they are accurate! If anyone tried to play chess with the board that you uploaded, they would have a very confusing game! :o
Interesting scene!

But.... I have a question and a couple of issues as follow:

1. Since all properties of any Algodoo geometry can be viewed normally with just a couple of mouse clicks, why would anyone want to learn a new feature which is honestly not an improvement over the original method of showing properties?

2. If you did it just because you like to design interesting features and functions with Algodoo, well, that's Okay then, and I can fully understand and appreciate what you have done!

3. The "Enable" button label changes to "Disable" but you do not mention anything about it in the instructions. I realize that some things are obvious to most people, and therefore do not need instructions, but occasionally some people might be confused about buttons, gauges, knobs, or indicator lights which are not explained. Things that may be obvious or intuitive to you and me, may not be obvious or intuitive to others.

4. One of the instructions reads: "Enter a comma separated list of properties you would like to display." and an arrow points to the rectangular window that's located in the GUI widget. That is a little misleading because text cannot be written in that window. Clicking on the window only causes the text entry window to display next to the GUI widget.

5. If I click more than once on the rectangular text window in the GUI widget, more than one text entry panel can pop up on the right hand side. There could be a large number of text entry panels hidden behind the one in front without the user knowing about it. Maybe a warning message of some sort should state something like "Do not click on the text window more than one time for each use of this widget".

Sorry that I'm being so picky with your scenes, but I know that you would do the same for me which I do appreciate. A programmer is not the best person to critique his/her own code. You will always get better input from someone else who is not familiar with how your code is designed! The best person for finding bugs is the actual end-user.

In spite of the few things that I have found, you did a great job of designing and coding this scene (as usual)!
Quote: "I could not figure out another way to have a user enter text while in design mode."

Here is one possible way to enter text. It's a scene that I developed while we were still using lasers for decoding the keyboard, but as kilinich mentioned in his comment, the lasers could be replaced with keys.isDown or onKey functions. Here is a link to my scene if you want to try this or something like it: Keyboard Decoder
maxRays is not changing because your code has a bug. I won't tell you how to fix it because you will learn more by doing your own research in the Algodoo Forum instead of me always fixing stuff for you.

Have fun! :)
Glad that you're back! Nice job on the scene.

Many years ago I worked as an engineer for a company that makes packaging machinery, and so I know what it takes to design, assemble, and test some very complex machinery. Hope you will stick around and post more interesting scenes. We "older" guys are rather tired of seeing tons of marble races and camps here on Algobox. (lol)
Rubelino - What is messed up? :s
Rubelino should be more specific because we have no idea what he thinks is messed up. No one can read his mind (at least I can't)!
alt_lkmoj -- Many people here on Algobox are offended by many things. Some don't like guns, some don't like bombs, and some don't like marbles. If I were to delete every scene that people say are offensive to them, I would have to delete at least half of every scene in the Algobox archives. That would be tens of thousands of scenes! I would delete this scene if it happened to break any of the rules, but unfortunately for you, it doesn't. So, my suggestion to you is just to ignore it. I looked through algodooper's scenes and I don't see any other offensive tokens, so maybe (hopefully) this will be his/her only one.

By the way, did you actually download and Play this scene? If not, then maybe you should because you would see that it's a fake token! After a few seconds, it disappears, and so it can't really be used for anything. This should have been an April Fools joke!

"Winning" here on Algobox is meaningless because it's too easy to tweak things (aka, CHEAT)!
I own two dogs (both are Beagles) and one of them is named Colby! :)
Jim why pudding.
This scene generates excellent springs. Nice work!
I totally agree with wild bill. This clockwork is absolutely amazing! _o_
Yeah, you got it! I don't know why the lead engineer who created Algodoo did the Boolean true/false test in the manner in which he did it, but once you learn it, you never forget it (well, most of the time! LOL).

The reason why you had trouble logging in to the forum is because the Algodoo forum requires a total separate account from Algobox. In most cases you can use your same user name that you used in Algobox, but you still must register separately as if it's a different web site. I use the same user name for the forum (Xray) but I could have used Xray2 if I wanted to.

Okay, if I don't see you on Algobox for some time, I will know that you didn't die or that you didn't get smacked in the face by a charging elephant, etc. See you when you return!
You were wise not to write the complete name because I would then have to delete the scene and send you a warning. But BE CAREFUL! Some people think that they can get away with using a shortened version (or abbreviation) of a cuss word and get away with it. Not here! We don't allow shortened versions or abbreviations of cuss words here on Algobox. We take them to mean the same thing, and they will get a person in the same kind of trouble!

Thanks

Comment I'm working on!!!
s_noonan -- Like it or not, this website is privately owned. Therefore, the owner can make up whatever rules (or lack thereof) they want, and users (such as s_noonan) must agree to obey the rules as a requirement to use the website. As Admin, Algoryx has given me the responsibility and the authority to enforce the rules, but when something comes into question, such as in the case where the rules may be ambiguous or vague, I have the right and the authority to interpret the rules as I decide. And I do not need to justify my actions to people like you who take joy in challenging authority. I try to be fair in all decisions that I make here on Algobox, but like it or not, I am the final authority. In your little rant above, you stated, "It was so objectionable that although Xray deemed it "a scene like that" he could not state what "that" was." Well, Mr. Noonan, I am not required nor compelled to state anything to you or to anyone else who uses this website. If you disagree with that fact, then you are certainly welcome to go spend your time on some other website of your choosing. I have been an Admin here for many years, and so far, Algoryx has been pleased with my performance. But if you have a complaint about anything that you feel I have done improperly while performing my duties, you are certainly welcome to file a formal complaint with them.
1. Most people don't understand what my "job" is, or what my responsibilities and authorities are. They also don't understand that I do it voluntarily. So, when someone tries to tell me what I'm supposed to do, or what I "should have done" in certain situations, yes, I do get a little fired up.

2. Thanks

3. You are right about "society norms". Without mentioning names, a family member of mine loves watching war movies, murder movies, violent "gangster" movies, and serial killer forensic movies and documentaries. But he/she makes a big stink if they happen to see a sex scene or even a commercial about a sex-oriented personal product. I guess killing and bloodshed are Okay, but the natural reproductive process is not.

4. Many Algobox users are very young children. It's bad enough when they hear and see things in their own home which no child should be exposed to. As an Algodoo Admin, one of my responsibilities is to shield the younger users from things that only their parents or professional educators should expose them to. Because of the fact that I am not a licensed or degreed child educator, I can only allow or disallow subject matter that I personally feel is either appropriate or not here on Algobox. When I make a decision, it isn't always black and white. I sometimes make a decision based upon my "gut feeling". If something seems inappropriate or disgusting to me, then I will usually not allow it. If someone questions me about my decision (as you did), I will not usually engage that person because it can often turn into a Ping-Pong game of justifying my decision. And so. I usually avoid going any further, and the person simply will have to accept my decision, or possibly end up getting banned if they push me too hard.

5. That's nice of you to say that, and I appreciate it.

6. Yup, I've heard that before!

7. (Xray wipes the sweat from his forehead).

8. No comment.
How is this a "lesson"? It shows some objects bumping into each other, but there is nothing that explains what is happening and why it happens. This scene is like going into a class for the first time only to find out that your teacher is deaf, dumb, and blind!
For future reference, I would not have gotten so "fired up" if you would have contacted me with your concerns via the forum PM system. That way our disagreements would not have been made public.

If you agree, I will delete all of our comments. I could also delete this scene if that's what you desire. Please let me know....

Thanks
Quote: "...but I assume so since matto's scene with a couple of butt cheeks pinching out a loaf appears to be OK."

No, it is not Okay, and thanks for bringing it to my attention. It has been deleted. I am no longer going to allow any disgusting "poop" or "pee" type scenes on Algobox.

Your next question would probably be: "but what about the hundreds of other similar scenes that are posted in the Algobox archives?" Ans: I'm not going to spend many hours of my time going through those old scenes to determine which ones are bad enough to delete and which ones could stay. I am only concerned about future scenes, because those are the ones that kids would immediately click on.

th... th... th... that's all folks!
