That figures. :mad:
*facepalm*

Notice in the pattern above that there is a BLACK (B) square in the lower right corner. Now, if you rotate that pattern by 90 degrees in either direction, you will end up with a WHITE (W) square in the lower right corner.

Like this:

W B W B W B W B
B W B W B W B W
W B W B W B W B
B W B W B W B W
W B W B W B W B
B W B W B W B W
W B W B W B W B
B W B W B W B W

That's exactly how your chess board ends up when I rotate it 90 degrees. If it does not for you, then you are not doing it correctly.

Here is an example of rotating something by 90 degrees. Stand in front of a mirror facing it. You can see your reflection if you are standing as I instructed. Now, turn to the right so that you are now facing where your right shoulder was before. Your left shoulder is now facing toward the mirror. Congratulations, you successfully rotated your body by 90 degrees!

Do you get it now, Devin? Of course you will have to reposition the chess pieces on the board because if you correctly rotated the board by 90 degrees, the chess pieces will be lined up on the left side and the right side of the board. They must be moved to the top and the bottom of the board like they were originally placed.

If you don't get it now, Devin, I'm going to give up on you! :rolleyes:

EDIT: Check out my version of your scene: Chessboard (for Devin H) As I mentioned in the description, you can copy my scene and then upload it as your own. I will then delete my version of it. Okay?

No one should feel bad because they can't come up with new ideas for scenes! It happens to everyone, and nothing says that you have to post a certain number of scenes per day, or per week, or per month. I usually post only one scene every one or two months, or even longer some times. My philosophy is, I would rather post one very good scene that people will like, than post a bunch of junk scenes that everybody hates.

So, my suggestion is, don't kick yourself because you cannot think of any new scenes. Just take some time looking at other people's scenes to get some ideas for yourself. If you can only think of one scene over a period of many weeks or months, that's Okay! It's better to take the time to make a great scene than to spend five minutes on a piece of crap that looks like a five year old baby posted!
@Boyguybrodude - You made the exact same comment in the scene titled "I would probably be less active...". Stop feeling sorry for yourself and read my reply to your comment in that other scene.
This doesn't do any of the things that you claim it does. For example, I created a circle and dropped it onto the "floor" (which actually is a plane), and the circle did not disappear. I then dropped the circle onto the rope, and as expected, the rope prevented the circle from hitting the floor. But it did not "stop" in an unusual manner. So, I'm not sure what exactly you are talking about. So, could you please be more specific and explain exactly what type of object that you dropped and disappeared? The plane did not have its "killer" checkbox checked, and so it should not kill (make disappear) any other object. It would be better if you could place the object in the scene that you claim disappears and edit the scene (reupload the edited version) so that I can test it exactly as you did.

Thanks

Please don't do that (repeat letters a zillion times). You can get your point across without repeating letters, and you won't appear to be like a small child to other people reading it. Just write text like I'm doing here. Okay?

Well, all newbies start out making simple scenes. Even I did when I first started. Some new users think that they must post a ton of scenes every day, but that is absolutely not recommended. When they post a lot of really crappy or stupid scenes, then no one likes them, and it can give the user a bad reputation. So just take your time, and start to experiment with other people's scenes. They can be simple, and still be interesting. Just try your best, and over time you will get better at it.
megauser289 -- Just letting you know that I got your other scene and your explanation. I had to delete it but I will still take a look at it and try to figure out why the rope disappears. I am very busy at my work right now, and so it may be a day or two before I will have some time to check it out.

Thanks
I already explained many times to him what he can do and how he can improve his scenes, but apparently, he is too lazy and just gives up too easily. I would bet that he is just the same in school. If a project he is given seems too difficult, he probably whines and cries about it, and then sits in a corner and pouts. Unfortunately, there are a lot of kids like him today, and that doesn't say much for our future.

Having said all that, Boyguybrodude, you have a choice to make. You can give up and not try any more, OR you can at least give it another try. If the scenes that you make are not "perfect", don't worry about it. There are MANY scenes being uploaded that are far from perfect. In fact, a lot of them are total junk. But if you will take some time to try your best to make a scene, then the next one should be even better. Then the scenes following should become better and better over time. You just have to make the effort.

Think of a subject, such as a train, or a boat, or a car, or a bread toaster! Then try your best to make that item with Algodoo. If it doesn't look quite right the first time, then just work on it a little more until it looks and works the way you want it to.

That's all I plan to say to you, Boyguybrodude. I just hope you decide not to give up on yourself so easily! :)

A major factor that affects fuel economy and the overall efficiency of the traffic flow is the WAY people drive. As an example, I happen to be a fairly aggressive driver (do not equate "aggressive" with "reckless"). I have always believed that if most people drove the way that I do, there would be fewer crashes, and the traffic flow, overall, would be much more efficient. So, how can you get most people to drive like I do? EDUCATE them! As part of getting your driver's license, you would have the option of taking a course titled "Effective Driving Techniques". The course would go beyond just getting your license, and it would teach people how to move most efficiently through various traffic conditions, and how to maximize your fuel economy while minimizing your trip time. If people drove sensibly (which they do not now) I believe that traffic lights would become redundant, and could possibly be removed completely from all roads. I realize that this is just a dream of mine, and can probably never happen, but I believe that it could be very possible to implement.

FRA32 - I already sent him/her a warning about it.

Thanks
faytree - Could you please explain what is happening? I can barely see the image of a car, and there are flickering boxes all around it when I move the cursor over the car. What purpose does this have? What are the boxes detecting?:s

Thanks!
What browser do you use?
Thanks for the explanation, faytree! Actually, this was an idea that I also had since I began using Algodoo! I just didn't know how to do it, or even if it can be done! You have a great idea here, and I think that it can be improved a bit.

Nice work! :tup:

Why did you give the instructions alternating colors? That serves no purpose except to make a person nauseous while trying to read your confusing instructions. I don't find your instructions to be easy to follow at all. The idea of connecting icons with different size springs just makes no sense at all.
Thanks guys! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! :)
Thanks for removing the alternating colors! I think everyone hates that! :lol:

I tried very hard to follow your instructions to create a GUI interface, but they are difficult to follow. They are easy for you because you wrote them!

The major problem that I see with this concept (beside the confusing instructions) is the fact that your icons plus the interconnecting springs are loaded with so much code, that it would make even a simple scene very complex. If all I need for a scene are a couple of text boxes that get triggered by a mouse click, I can very easily create them with a few lines of code. I don't need your very complex and very confusing GUI interface. Sorry, but that's just how I feel about it.

I will say that your in-depth knowledge of Thyme scripting is very impressive to me. You obviously have spent many long hours studying it and experimenting with it! And you probably have had prior programming experience, maybe with a similar programming language. Am I right about that?
The way I keep a object from rotating is I put curly brackets around the angle value like this: {0.0} Those brackets will keep the object locked at whatever angle it is currently set to.

@austin9700 - Contact a priest.
Nice work! :tup:
Suggestion:

Because some code still runs in the user paddle while Algodoo is stopped, I cannot zoom in or out, and cannot translate around the scene. So, I did this:

Sim.running ? {
camera.pan = [0, 0];
camera.zoom = 100;
angle = 0;
angvel = 0;
vel = [0, 0];
scene.my.player = [e.this.pos - e.this.size / 2, e.this.pos + e.this.size / 2];
_zDepth := 20.0 }:{}
@Boyguybrodude - Make your own what? Please explain in detail what you want to do.
Algobox was not intended for posting poetry, stories, love letters, or similar types of text-only scenes. Please make this the LAST TIME you do this.

Thanks.
Very interesting scene!

I did some experimenting with the values in the initial line, and I found that when I made the timeToLive values slightly different between the two "scene.addbox" scripts (such as 0.1 and 0.11) then the resulting image becomes something that looks "fractal" (although it isn't truly fractal). Unfortunately, it also lags very badly after a short time period and I have to manually stop the simulation when it gets real bad.

I also deleted the "color = e.this.color" in both scene.addbox scripts in order to make a multi-color pattern.

Try it!

I know the difference between postStep and Update :) I just wasn't certain if the code could be moved to postStep without introducing bugs. In case you didn't know, the execution rate of update is not affected by sim.frequency. Only postStep is. :*) At 60Hz sim.frequency, postStep and update run at the same rate. (might be 50Hz in Europe (?))

I have been playing around with a few different scenes, trying to decide which one I'll post, but I've also been very busy with my personal life, and so my free time recently has been rather limited. I don't believe that I can improve your Julia set scene, and so I probably won't even attempt it, but who knows?

Thanks
OOOooooooh! Pretty colors! :tup:
@FRA32 - I recall a scene that kilinich did a few years ago called Jackhammer Rescue . It has some complex code in it, which might be a piece of cake for you. ;) So, maybe take a look at it to see if you can use any of his code and/or techniques that would work for this minecraft scene.
PoisonusShroom -

Suggestion: Just when you are ready to upload a new scene to Algobox, before saving your scene in your computer, zero in on a portion of the scene that people could identify with, rather than a blank sky, like you did here. That way they will see a thumbnail image of your scene, such as the first panel in your scene.
kilinich has done breaking textures before. Search through his scenes and you will find them. He did a scene where a circular saw blade cuts through logs. Find that one and you will find breaking textures!

EDIT: Here, I found it for you! Cutting Textures
Last edited at 2016/01/01 23:23:55 by Xray
Well, you did say that you needed "breaking textures" and that's what I found for you. But I guess I misunderstood what you were asking for. So, please explain in detail what you want so that people like me don't waste their time looking for the wrong information. What do you want animated? The bricks breaking up? Or what??? :s
