Little Foxy - No, I'm not taking it seriously and I'm not mad or anything like that. It's just that a lot of people think that Algodoo is a game, and I simply want them to understand that the company (Algoryx) that made the program Algodoo, made it to be a learning tool that is fun to use. The first version of the program was called "Phun", but then in 2008 or 2009 the name was changed to Algodoo.
If you want to, you can click on my user name, and then you will see a list of all the scenes that I made and uploaded to Algobox. Many of my scenes are games, and most of those games are from the early days of arcade video games (such as Pac Man and Donkey Kong and many others).
Anyhow, I made a similar type of "5th wheel" go-kart for my son when he was a young kid, but I did not power it with a B&S engine. I actually used a 120VAC washing machine motor, direct-drive to a small bicycle wheel. It worked Okay (sort of) but the motor died every time he ran out of extension cord, which was only 50 Ft long! LOL
Oh, in regards to your scene.... It generally looks and operates about average, but in all honesty, it is lacking the overall quality that I usually see from you. I feel that it can use a little "polish" and a little "tweaking" to get the scene where it should be. I hope that you are not offended by my comment.
I figured out that the virus will spread if I push or toss the virus into other objects. Not sure if that's how this scene is supposed to work, but without instructions from the author, it's anyone's guess!
You should explain in the scene description HOW to use the AND gate. I know what an AND gate is, but I have no idea how to turn the inputs on in your scene. Please explain!
s_noonan - Thanks for the suggestion. Your method of capturing keystrokes is, no doubt, superior to the way that I did it in this scene, but to make such a drastic change would mean a total rewrite of the code. And to be honest with you, although your method of coding is obviously superior to mine, this is the way that I have been doing it since I first started learning Thyme scripting in 2012. In order to make such a change, I would have to go through a learning curve, which would mean bugging you for help, which I truly don't want to bother you with. My code isn't pretty or efficient, but for the most part, it gets the job done. And, unlike in the professional world, I don't need to be concerned about someone else maintaining it.
At this point, my scene is just something that popped into my head, and I have no immediate ideas for it other than maybe making some sort of game out of it. Or, maybe not......
Peru Plays -- No one gets banned "for no reason". There is always a reason, and it's usually because the user who got banned broke the rules and/or was very disrespectful to an Admin. Admins here on Algobox are sort of like school teachers. We are all adults, and nearly every day we have to deal with bratty, disrespectful children who think they can do whatever they want to here on Algobox. Well, it doesn't work that way. If you cannot play by the rules, then you will not be allowed to play here at all.
Very interesting and clever concept! The one major problem that I had was often grabbing and moving an axle (hinge) while trying to move one of the engine components. It happened so often to me that it became frustrating. What you can possibly do which may help the situation is to move all components forward of the axles so that the axles are behind the components. Then there would be less opportunity to accidentally grab an axle during the moves.
Another possible fix is to place all axles on a separate layer, if that would work.
MasterGamer -- It's a known fact that as people age their reflexes tend to slow down. That's why you never see old people competing in the Olympics.
Dark Racer -- There are lots of ways that you can cheat this game to get a perfect score every time, but you'll ruin all the fun of challenging yourself if you do that.
As good as the artwork is, I believe that it could be improved if you were to add some color and possibly some texture to the buildings.
If you don't mind, I would like to add some color and texture, and upload to Algobox my own version of the scene. Of course I would say that you gave me permission to color your scene, and I would give you total credit for the great artwork. But if you prefer that I don't do this, then that would be Okay with me, and I would fully understand. There would be no hard feelings at all. Please let me know your decision.
TobyFox -- I want to explain something to you. When you write stuff like "jgfbfgsregebrnyjr ntdhr thgw erf " in scene titles, scene descriptions, or in the scene comments sections, you are not being funny, you are not being smart, but most importantly, other people who read that rubbish get very annoyed by it. It shows that you are either illiterate, stupid, or just plain lazy.
If you take the time to create a scene, take a little more time to give it a title and a description that other people can read and understand. It will make you look smarter and more entertaining than when you scribble a bunch of gibberish that no one has a clue about what you are saying.
Now, this is my nicer way of explaining things to people, so I hope that you will take my advice and do the things that I suggest.
Now, this is my not-so-nice warning: If you continue to write nonsense or gibberish in your Algodoo scenes or comments, then I will be forced to ban you from using this web site.
Could you write a Thyme script for me that will predict the winning lottery numbers a few hours before they are drawn? I would appreciate it very much.
They are not swimming. They are stationary. I did make a scene with your orcas actually swimming, if you would like to see it. I will upload it and give you total credit for making the orcas. Would that be Okay with you?
@faytree -- In your comment above, you use two words, "forecast" and "prediction", when describing calculating future events. I was wondering if you could explain the difference between those two words as you understand them, or can they simply be used interchangeably?
I'll explain later why I'm asking such an unusual question.
@faytree -- No problem, my Algodoo friend! Here is the reason behind my question... A few years ago, I happened upon a math discussion forum at which time the subject was about the difference between a "calculation", a "forecast", and a "prediction". There are differences, although most people use those terms interchangeably. For example, when you calculate how much money you will have in your bank account on some future date, it is not a prediction if you have known and unchanging input data. If the account's interest rate doesn't change, and if the periodic amount of deposits doesn't change over the time period in question, then you can calculate how much money you will have in your account on any future date. But a prediction is more of a "hunch" or an educated guess. For example, my friend is very talented at picking money-making stocks, and his other investments almost always produce significant profits. Therefore, I predict that he will be quite wealthy within the next five years. That would be a prediction, and a forecast would produce estimated dollar amounts if you use current input data to form an estimation of future profits.
Having that in mind, I don't think that the word "prediction" is the correct word to use when referring to your (and s_noonan's) scenes. The math produces accurate results based upon known input data, and therefore is a calculation rather than a prediction. But who cares? Everyone knows what you and s_nonnan are talking about whether you use the word predict, calculate, or forecast, right? I just brought this up in case anyone reading this might care to explore this any further. Thanks!
Suggestion: Whenever "Start" (or S key) is pressed, delete any existing balls that are on the moveable bar before the new ball pops onto it. As it is now, it's possible to click Start numerous times which will add more balls to the bar.
The animated gears can run without problems even when their teeth are in phase. i.e., the tip of each tooth on the pink gear clashes with the tip of each tooth on yellow gear. AMAZING!
We've known about this strange behavior of Algodoo water for many years. Every few months a newbie will discover it and tell everyone about the amazing thing that they have discovered. But in reality, dozens of others have already found it long before they did!
