llog123 - No need to say you're sorry to anyone because I doubt that anyone cares if you are active or not on Algobox. If you make some really good scenes, then keep doing them! But if you make the same old boring "Athlon" scenes or colored stick men, that no one cares about, well, then, please don't make and upload any more of those types of scenes!
No problem, The Linkage! I've been around for a long time (because I'm older than most people here on Algobox), and I have never heard them called "inverted commas". They do not look anything like a comma, and their function is totally different. But it really doesn't matter what they are called as long as they are used properly!
Are you joking? You actually want someone to take his or her time and talent to design, build, test, and debug an entire event because you are too lazy to do it yourself? GIVE ME A BREAK! It's certainly Okay and reasonable to ask for help with particular parts of a scene, but to ask other people to make the entire scene for you is just going way overboard.
Ken3344 - Why did you tell Algodooper to "please shut up algodooper he can do whatever he wants", and then soon after you report user Hanan for "Spamming lots of poorly rushed scenes that have little to no meaning."? You cannot have it both ways!
Calvin1390 ... Why did you report this scene? Did you do that by mistake? And what warning did I give you? I don't remember warning you about something. Help me remember please.
Luka - You are telling me that I'm "free to remove this text scene"? OMG, YOU GAVE ME PERMISSION TO REMOVE THIS SCENE!!! I'm sooooo happy that you gave me permission to remove this scene because without your permission, I could not remove it. THANK YOU KIND MARBLE GOD! Thank you for giving me permission. I truly appreciate that!
Okay, time to get serious..... First of all, I doubt that you are the reason why Algobox is the mess that it is today. It started to become a mess when Algoryx gave the software (Algodoo) away for free. Now anyone, including the poor, the deprived, the uneducated, and the very young can have access to it. Most of the young kids do not use it as it was intended to be used. They use it like a modern version of Microsoft Paint. That is, they put together simple, static, scenes that do nothing except to pose. Then the kids vote on which color is their favorite. Most of them don't even bother to engage in marble races because that requires a little more creative thinking than does making colored stick people, which any four year old toddler can make.
Once word got out among the kindergarten community, then every pre-school child in the world wanted to join this mindless group of sandbox cowboys. Then one-by-one, the grownups and young educated people began to leave because no adult or teen wants to play in the same sandbox where children are playing. It just ain't healthy. So, when most of the adults and older teens have left, there were very few educated or disciplined people who remained, and LOTS of toddlers and undisciplined children who have no desire to learn new things.
Way back when I first took over as Admin, I tried to lay down some rules that go beyond the Algodoo "Terms of Service", but the powers at Algoryx did not want me to make any changes which would limit the types of scenes that get uploaded. So, basically, my hands were tied. The kids are allowed to make virtually any kind of scene that they want to so long as it does not violate the terms of service which limits uploading profanity, threats against other users, buying/selling stuff, and those sorts of things. I tried to tell them that the Terms of Service are not enough. There also needs to be some control on the types and quality of scenes, but they did not want to trust me enough to determine what is a quality scene and what is not. That's why you see about 90 percent pure rubbish on Algobox.
Sorry for my ramblings, but there's a lot to be said, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
@LastChance - Thanks for explaining what Discord means. Apparently, some of the kids here on Algobox want to use it like a chatting website, and I am constantly reminding them that Algobox is NOT a chat room. Seems they don't get my message unless they get banned for a few days. Then, all of a sudden, like magic, they understand!
drbalk - This could be an interesting and educational scene, especially for kids in a science class.
There are a few issues with it that I wanted to bring to your attention.
Your instructions are a little confusing because of the fact that nothing is labeled in the scene. For example, you mention "... the green gate of the neutral electroscope". What device is the neutral electroscope? It's obvious to you, but not to someone downloading your scene for the first time! Also, where is the "green gate"? There are two rectangular green blocks on the assembly which I believe is the electroscope, and so which one is the "gate"? Also, there are some colored shapes inside the electroscope which should be labeled. You should also explain what that thing is with the blue and red legs.
Another issue I had was when moving the orange staff, it was almost impossible to move it without spilling a lot of electrons! In "real life" electrons do not fall off a charged rod just by moving it. (well, maybe they will if the ambient humidity is very high!).
Except for those minor details, you did a good job on the scene.
DrBalk - Did you read my comments from your first electroscope scene? I did not see a reply, so maybe you missed them. Anyhow, this scene has the same issues that your other scene has, and this one has one MAJOR bug. When I move the staff over to the electroscope and touch the top of it with the gate of the staff, Algodoo completely freezes up! I haven't spent time on it to try to determine what causes that, but it would probably be easier for you to debug because you know your code.
robotmaker - Yes, think about it. You post a blank scene. You wasted YOUR time. Other people download your blank scene wondering what it's about. They then get angry because you wasted THIER time, and you may possibly get yourself a bad reputation especially if you do that more than once or twice. Then I have to give you a warning which wastes MY time, and you may get a bad reputation with me and other Admins. So, you see, that uploading blank or other "junk" scenes wastes a lot of people's time, and it could cause you to get a bad reputation especially if people get angry about it.
Now, keep in mind that a scene doesn't have to be blank in order to waste people's time. For example, some of the children who use this website post worthless "junk" scenes that do virtually nothing at all. The scenes might be a circle which they call a "marble". Or they may upload a single box, and call it a house, or some silly thing like that. Those kinds of junk scenes also waste people's time just as much as a blank scene does. So, robotmaker, instead of making blank or junk scenes, how about making scenes about what your screen name says you are..... In other words, make some robot scenes! Spend some time and energy on your scenes so that people will enjoy playing them! A good scene should take many hours or even many days to make! The more effort and time that you put into a scene, the more others will like your scenes and will like YOU!!
I'm so glad to see more scenes in which people are discussing physics, chemistry, and general science instead of the same boring children's scenes about voting for your favorite color that get uploaded a hundred times a day. YAY SCIENCE!
I tried very hard to understand what you mean by: "BEST WAY TO MERCY UNDYNE AFTER PACIFIST" but it makes no sense at all. I assume that English is not your native language. Am I right about that?
Another thing that would help to not lose electrons from the staff is to increase the simulation frequency. The default is 60Hz. Solid objects become less "porous" when you increase it to about 200Hz. For those who do not know, click on "Options" (next to the File tab in the upper-left corner), and then click on "Simulation". You can move the slider or simply enter a value of 200. That will help when the Drag tool is used, but will do little to help with the Move tool.
robotmaster - Why don't you spend more than FIVE MINUTES on making a scene instead of wasting everyone's time who downloads your childish scenes? People who make really good scenes often spend many hours of work on them, and other people enjoy playing them. Those silly scenes that you make are worthless, and some people even get angry when they waste their time downloading them. I warned you about this before, and I will soon run out of warnings. What comes next? Banning you from Algobox. I hope you won't let that happen, Okay?
Most of my own experience is with the M1911 pistol, and I have a pretty good understanding of how the disconnector and other parts function. There are LOTS of tutorials and videos on the web that describe what the disconnector does and how it does it. Just do a Google search on "M1911 disconnector" and you will find lots of information to go through!
You made the same mistake that many non-chess players make. That is, you set up the board with the darker square in the lower-right corner. That should be the lighter square. It's the only way that the queen can start out on her own color with the pieces set up correctly. So, you need to rotate the board by 90 degrees (in either direction) and then set up the board correctly. Do a Google search for some examples of properly setting up a chessboard.
It's always good to make sure that your scenes are accurate before posting them!
sander2003 - Um.... you can post more than one sentence in a comment. Just like I am doing here! If you post only one sentence for every comment, then you will clutter up the comment section of whatever scene you are commenting on. If you do that to other people's scene comment section, they will likely become very mad at you and possibly start a flame war. I'm sure that you do not want that to happen, right?
This is really cool! I like cellular automata's because of the interesting patterns that many of them produce. I did a Google search on Langton's Ant and learned more about it. I am also playing around with changing the rules a bit to see what kind of other patterns I could make. I'll post my version of the scene if I come up with anything that's really interesting.
Well, I don't have anything yet, so please don't wait on me!
I will just play around with it as time permits, and so I might come up with something interesting, or I might end up with nothing at all!
My all-time favorite scenes are the A.I. (or simulated A.I.) scenes like kilinich's Basketball Robot 2 . It seems to have a mind of its own, and that's what impresses me about that type of scene!.
What glitch? And what's a "fuse"? Well, I mean besides the obvious fuse that blows to protect an electrical circuit, or a fuse that you light that gives you a time delay before a bomb explodes.
Your screen shots do not explain anything at all. I cannot figure out what the "glitch" is that you are complaining about simply by looking at those images. Can you duplicate the scene so that I and others could actually see what the glitch does. Sorry, but just saying that you had a glitch is not good enough for anyone to help you figure out what caused it.
I still have no idea what it is you are calling a "glitch". I cannot understand what's happening without having the actual scene for me to analyze. In your screenshots, all I see are 5 polygons and half of a polygon stuck together with axles. The mass of the half polygon is only 0.0090466 kg, and so that's why it floats. You made it that light, and so it will float like a helium balloon. If that's the "fuse" that you are talking about, it can't magically happen by itself. There is no "secret script" looming in the dark alleys of your scene! You or someone else had to make it that way.
In my opinion, what I see in your screenshots is not a glitch so, I suggest that you don't worry about it any longer, and just start a new scene, especially since you do not have the original scene anyway.
I'm no mechanical expert, but I believe what you want is a hydraulic sliding jack (not pneumatic). Pneumatic uses air which is compressible, and that would make your jack very "springy" as if it were held in place by rubber bands. Fluids are not compressible (at least for all practical purposes) and would hold much stiffer than air would.
