Inspired by Nxdt's Space Arcade Shooter, this is another method of simulating flying in a 3D canyon utilizing texture swapping. The scene was originally intended to be a game showcasing my soon to be shared 3D rendering engine but the frame rates were too slow so I split them up. I may come back to this one and turn it into a game of some sort in the future. The first few frames will be slow while the textures are being cached. There isn't really anything to do other than watch, but you can move the ship around if you like using the arrow keys. Back to work on the rendering engine I go....

I'm really happy to see a new user here on Algobox who has a good handle on programming, 3D graphics, and game design. Many of the guys who are really good programmers have left the site for various reasons, and now it's refreshing to see some new blood creating some awesome scenes! I hope you will stick around for a LOOOOONG time!
I agree with Xray!
Suggestion, you should make objects appear in front of the ship and the user can sidestep them.
That was the plan. Actually, the original plan was to make horizontal bars appear at different heights and come toward you like in the original Star Wars arcade game. The problem is, I could only have 1 on the screen at a time. I also tried small rotating objects to show off the 3D rendering, but again, I could only have 1 at a time to maintain a decent frame rate. If I made them come at you fast enough to be a challenge to avoid or hit, there wasn't enough time to see the 3d effect. If I made them slow enough to see the 3D good, then it wasn't challenging at all. So, I split the rendering engine off and I'm working on having it render an entire room with objects (my office). I can't do it in real time, but I can adjust the camera angle or the lighting then render again. We're talking a second or two to render each frame. Algodoo wasn't intended to do 3D?:)
No, Algodoo was not intended to do 3D. We users can only attempt to simulate 3D as best as we can, but as you have already realized there are unfortunate limitations and tradeoffs.
I love Algodoo beeing in 2D because i'ts more simple and easy to operate with, I tried other simulators in 3D but the looked really bad to me.

I'm thinking (if I can  ) to make a top view 3D "city" with it's correspondent angle surface changer (zoom & camera pos)
