Updates from V.1
*Replaced and retuned the variator so that it now has better gear ratio: V.2 = 2,5:1 - 0,58:1 (Ratio range 4,31:1 - 1:1)
V.1 = 2:1 - 0,52:1 (Ratio range 3,84 - 1:1)
And now it won't stall when rolling backwards.

*Added Rev. limiter so that the variator won't break as easy at full throttle.
*Added Rev. limiter to tachometer.

*Fixed suspension: Softened and fine tuned the boggie(rear suspension) alot and stiffened and added more damping to the front suspension so the snowmobile now rides better and you can enjoy watching the rear suspension work its way over bumps.

I finally was able to create this "realistic" snowmobile that i always have wanted to build. The recent updates with new hinges and some discoveries in how to build the variator made it possible!

The only Control is the spring constant in the engine. To really see the variator work use about 40k throttle on an flat surface. I recommend keeping it under 90K N/m for "full throttle" but it can handle more.

The power of the little spring engine at 90000N/m spring constant is 39HP/450Nm at 640RPM and it weighs 75Kg

Total weight of the snowmobile is 285kg, Its not to scale because it just kept exploding when i tried to scale it. It is very slow for a snowmobile since the engine only puts out ~40Hp. The variator only looses about 85% percent of power in my tests which I find really good for being built in algodoo at 100Hz. The power hog is the variator belt and the big hog is the track. The Boggie(rear suspension) is from one of my earlier scenes.

The variator can't handle much more power than the engine puts out and it has an mechanical clutch by having a frictionless circle that the belt rests against on low throttle so the engine should never stall.

The Variator is an CVT that works by centripetal force in the primary to push the belt out to get an higher gear ratio and by pretension springs in the secondary to hold against so that it tries to keep the ratio down when the vehicle moves slowly. Its an wonderful fully mechanical CVT that allows the engine to work at its most efficient or powerful RPM range at different throttle positions. Just by using the laws of physics!

To adjust the RPM at which the variator holds the engine you adjust the weight of the red balls in the primary and you may change the pretension of the bend hinge in the secondary
