A simple example of PID (Proportion, integral, and derivative) control. See if you can adjust the gains (Kp, Ki, and Kd) so that you get little or no bounce. Or don't. Either way, enjoy!

Controls:
Up - increase Kp
Down - decrease Kp
Right - increase Kd
Left - decrease Kd
\ - increase Ki
] - decrease Ki
/ - increase Altitude
. - decrease Altitude
, - reset Altitude back to '5'
return - set all gains back to '0'
shift - toggle thruster

Very nice demonstration.

I tried create a primitive PID control for a unicycle. It stayed in balance for a while but I never got the system to be stable more than like 12 seconds. It always spiralled out of control. I suspect it had to do with the wheel slipping.
Great demonstration. I must say that PID algorithm is invaluable for things like missile guidance
