my first idea was to make a lego Nxt set with multiple lego parts, and that rolling scheme with sensors as inputs to change the scheme. Would that work?
I think that it could work if you find exact scripts. If you want to do this, good luck!:)

But I think the legos will only add difficulty, and if people don't know how to put them in place, it also will be hard for them.:lol:
more complex is often harder
