I did a few experiments with sound waves and found that mass affects the resonance of frequency.
That's why the base part of an instrument is bigger than the rest. But as seen in this example it’s the same length, frequency and amplification as other.

More mass = Base (longer wavelength)
Less mass = Treble (shorter wavelength)

Everything in this scene is at its default mass, the motors speed (=frequency) and motor flywheel size (=amplification) are both the same.

Sound energy density is what I think they call it?

Nice scene, but I thought that in stringed instruments the strings vibrate at their natural frequency (free vibration), not forced vibration.

Nice oscilloscope.
You made a sine waveform, I know this because I'm a music producer.
You would need a good subwoofer to hear the sine at that frequency.

@s_noonan yes that is correct, but this is forced resonance, kind of like a violin. and from what i can see if i disconnect the motor it dose not change the frequency.

@zooloo75 I have a basic understanding of waveforms and yes at this frequency its below human hearing levels.

I'm currently working on a noise cancellation project my late father started at the end of WWII, called 'the wall silence'

This is perhaps still top secret? but as it was never built and Algodoo was not around in those days, i think it would be cool...

Works on very low frequency at height directional amplification. The same as the wind effects sound waves.

Natural oscillation frequency is function of string length and speed of sound in the string, that depends on material density and tension.

Thinner string lower density.

I suppose the next step is to make a guitar or harp, i would think you would need a high simulation speed 10.00X and work small as possible.

Could use different length, thickness or density, i don't know if you could use tension effectively with hinges thought :s

Now that would be cool if we could at lease see sound in PHUN/Algodoo :tup:
