I threw this one together pretty quickly. It shows the basic principles of an airfoil when moving through the air - the greater air pressure below the wing and the lower air pressure above the wing provide lift, causing the wing to rise. I simulated air by creating two rows of circles, above and below the wing. The simulation speed is slowed down to 0.10x to enhance the viewer's understanding.

it doesn't work. it only rises because the lower geometries are colliding with the down front part of the wing which results in an impulse upwards.

if you turn up the frequency you can see that the wing doesn't move at all because the impulse from the lower geometries is cleared by the impulse from the upper geometries. this doesn't happen with a frequency of 100Hz because there are too little calculation steps.
I think it still lifts a bit even when you bring sim.frequency up to 400, so I think the scene might just need a bit of tweaking... Again, as I said I threw this together fairly quickly, without trying to see if this accurately represented an airfoil.

Some other things: I should probably make 2 rows of air on each side of the wing to simulate the extra pressure that keeps air from scattering in real life, which happens in mine.

EDIT:
ok I think there are several problems with this actually... It seems like the wing may just be pushed up by several circles that bounce on the base of the moving construction, or the wing may just be following the path between the two rows of air... I'll have to investigate it.. <_<

Yes KarateBrot is right. (I'm a bit late here but hey)
An aerofoil uses the bournelli effect and requires a fluid under pressure to function.
This is just circles bouncing off of it, set up to hit them in the right spot every time.
