Hi Xray, is it ok if i have a leaderboard in my Algicosathlon scenes?

Yes, as long as the scene includes an actual race. What we don't want is people posting ONLY leaderboards or scoreboards by themselves because that would be considered an announcement which is not allowed.

This comment is to inform you that a user by the name of "jack13" has just released a scene containing a cuss word as of the 30th of December 2024.

I write this to you due to the fact that profanity is prohibited on Algobox according to Rule I.

I have already reported his scene twice already so I hope that helps too.

@AngryBirdAlgodoo -- I saw your report and I deleted the offensive scene. I also banned that user from Algobox.

Thank you for reporting the scene. Just FYI, my job as Admin here on Algobox is voluntary, and I try to devote a lot of time every day to it, but I also have a life outside of Algobox. So, even though I try to devote a few hours every day to my Admin job, there are times when I may be away from it for a couple of hours. I quickly scan every new scene that gets posted in order to make certain that rules weren't violated, but if a bad scene or comment gets uploaded shortly after I happen to walk away from my computer, then it will stay published until I return. It's people like you who make my job a little easier and more efficient, and I appreciate the help very much! Occasionally a user might catch something that I missed.

Hey Xray, what is a actual race?

@Xx_CurtisPalazola_xX -- You're joking, right? I can't believe that anyone who uses Algobox doesn't know what a marble race is!

Okay, what would you have a leaderboard for? The leaderboard is to announce the winners and losers of a race which is usually a marble race or some other kind of race they call Algicosathlons, or something like that. Now do you understand?

How do you achieve that fire effect?

There are many different ways to make fire with Algodoo but they all require Thyme Script. I don't have the time to explain them right now so if you don't mind waiting a while I'll get back to you either later today or tomorrow.

@Cool_S -- For this particular scene I used two different methods to simulate fire: One is a laser, and the other is a box that has script that generates colored circles. In both cases, I used script to produce a yellow-orange light that shimmers, making it look somewhat like fire. In the laser I used a random number generator that makes the laser beam change colors and shake around like real fire. I can't go into much more detail if you have no scripting experience. The good news is, most fire generators are self-contained, and so if you wanted to copy the laser and the box that produces circles, you can go ahead and copy them and use them in your own scenes. I have a few other scenes that use fire generators and if you can find them you have my permission to copy them and use them in your own scenes. If you find other fire generators in other people's scenes that you would like to use for your own scenes, you will have to ask them permission to copy them. If you ask someone in a comment and they don't respond within a few days, then it might be safe to copy their stuff. But if you do that and they later complain about it, you might need to remove it from your scene, but I doubt that would happen because most people here on Algobox are nice and friendly.
