left spring acts like a rope, exerting no force unless stretched to its target length. right spring does the opposite i guess, exerting force only when compressed to its target length.

Good but if I could make a suggestion, I would make it so that the springs gradually gain strength rather than binarily turning on or off.
The idea was that they were like plain old rope, not like a bungee cord.
