Why I'm so obsessed with mouse-controlled walkers lately beats me. Either way, I found a really cool technique that produces infinitely strong legs that don't lose lateral force with distance, like at all. The feet (well the invisible circles behind the feet that are attached to the feet by invisible axles) are directly glued to the body. Why? well...
A long while ago, I was attempting to make a portal game, and I discovered an interesting property of teleporting geometries that were glued to other geoms. Simply put, teleportation ignored what body a geom was part of and moved the geom as if it was free floating. However, it would still remain part of that body after teleportation.
This is precisely what makes the Infinitely Strong Walker work. Instead of two weak springs, or four stronger springs with an intermediate circle behind the foot, this one uses (aside from the two aesthetic ones) no springs, a clever "bug" that I turned into a useful feature, as well as an intermediate system both for soft movement and so that the constantly "moving" intermediate circle puts actual velocity into something, because without it it acts strange.
Controls in scene. Enjoy. |
