If a pencil is flicked near its bottom hard enough, will it move fast enough so that the tip doesn't hit the table?
According to this test, yes. The ball at the base of the pencil has a starting velocity of 65 meters per second to the right, which is just enough for the pencil to miss the table by a tiny margin.

Have you tried doing this in real life? I'm curious if Algodoo gives similar results to real life.

I have! If I flick hard enough, I won't hear the pencil hit the table. It's basically impossible to see in real time, so all I can go off is whether I feel a faint vibration in the table or if I hear the tip clip the edge.
