This is a more advanced version of an earlier scene that I created. It writes text using tracers. Everything that you need to know about it is explained in the scene.

Note1: You cannot Run and Pause the scene using the conventional controls (the Run/Pause button in the scene, or the keyboard Spacebar). Please read the instructions in the scene for more information.

Note2: Any of you advanced users are welcome to use any part of my scene, including the Thyme script. HAVE FUN!

Don't get me wrong this is VERY good (Rated it a 10) but I think you overcomplicated it just a little bit.

This is constructive criticism please don't ban.
M key works bad
MasterGamer -- A person will never get banned for expressing their opinions and ideas for a scene, even if the comments are negative. Of course you may not use profanity or break any other Algodoo rules.

I agree that it's overly complicated, but keep in mind that the title says "Experiment". In other words, it's not a finished product. Thanks for your comment!

Algouser ll -- Yes, I know that some keys do not work every time, and I did mention that in my instructions.
Wow, cool!

I rated it a 9.
Thanks, alt_ikmoj!

Wow I Never Expected To Have This Experemient But This Is Kinda Weird And Hard But Still Not Any Bad I Rated This By An 8
Also Xray I Cannot Upolad Anything Please Help Me
LimeAlgodoo -- You said: "Wow I Never Expected To Have This Experemient But This Is Kinda Weird And Hard But Still Not Any Bad " After reading that, I had to take a couple of aspirin because my brain hurt while trying to make sense of what you said. I don't know if you normally speak some other language besides English, but your comment sounds like you used Google Translate or some other translation program. In other words, your comment makes no sense to me at all. And so, I cannot reply to you in any sensible manner. If you would like to try leaving another comment, hopefully it will be understandable and sensible.

Thanks
hey Xray, I was wondering if you could help me with a very specific script. I would like to be able to read an entity's ID (could be an entity or an object, i.e. laser, box, axle...) just by selecting on it, without it having any special code on it, and from sim paused. maybe there's some obscure Thyme function that shows which entity is selected?
Otherwise would it be possible to at least read the clipboard via Thyme? This way I could extract the entityID from doing ctrl-C on the selected object with some dedication, it'd be harder to use but maybe more plausible than the other way

The really challenging part about this is that i need it to work without having any special properties on the selected entity. plus sim has to be paused, but that shouldn't be much of a problem. Not sure if it's possible at all. If you have any ideas i'd definitely like to hear them!

as for the scene: maybe try to unbind the key on keys.isDown, then rebind a couple frames later (or once you release the key)? Or maybe start the sim on onKey (i.e. on any key press) and use lasers for each key? That would be cumbersome but would probably be perfect

@The Linkage -- You gave me a lot to think about, and I do not have any "quick" solutions for any of them. I am currently working on a home project which is taking all of my free time, and so I will have to research your questions when I can break loose. My home project takes priority over everything else (except for maybe eating and breathing. LOL).

So, I will try to come up with some ideas within a few days. Sorry for the delay, but it couldn't be avoided.

Another thought: s_noonan is one of the best Thyme scripters here on Algobox. In fact, he is much better than I am. So, if you are reading this, s_noonan, maybe you have some ideas for The Linkage. If not, then I will work on it as soon as I have the time. Thanks!

OMG How?
Hi :)
@SuperLuigiTV - How, WHAT? :s

@lololoer - Hey, it's been a long time since we chatted on Algobox! Are you planning on sticking around and making some more awesome scenes like you used to do? I sure hope so! One of my favorite scenes is THIS one. :tup:

@Xray:Links aren't allowed here on Algobox anymore.
wild bill said it multiple times and deleted a lot of links,shouldn't you know about that rule since your also an admin?
@MasterGamer -- That rule only applies to external links. Those are links to other websites. It's perfectly okay to place a link in comments to other Aldodoo scenes. We have been doing that for many years.
@The Linkage --

"I would like to be able to read an entity's ID (could be an entity or an object, i.e. laser, box, axle...) just by selecting on it, without it having any special code on it, and from sim paused"

I was not able to find or figure out any way to do that without first planting some code in the object.

"Otherwise would it be possible to at least read the clipboard via Thyme?"

Not that I'm aware of.

"The really challenging part about this is that i need it to work without having any special properties on the selected entity."

Therein lies the problem!

You might try sending a PM to s_noonan or kilinich to see if either of those guys might have any ideas about this. If they don't, then I doubt that anyone else would.
Good to see you, yeah i will come back maybe some day:tup:
@The Linkage
Had same idea. I wanted do drag rectangle over object to select them, and return IDs or something, to make warcraft-like units selecting for click army...
I found some group with name "selected" while digging in console, but couldnĀ“t get it to work too:/
But instead I found a way how to make floating origin, did somebody used it btw?:D
@Xray You messaged me about not posting messages onto algobox. Why don't you just let me ask everyone if they could help me with my project? or are collabs against the rules too?
@jdw6701 - READ the Rules, then you will know.

Concerning your question: " Why don't you just let me ask everyone if they could help me with my project?" Why should I treat you differently than everyone else on Algobox? Are you special in some way?

My questions to you are: "Why do you resist posting a message on the FORUM? Are you afraid of it for some reason? Or are you simply too lazy to register on the Forum if you haven't already done so?

The Algodoo Forum was set up for people to share information and to ask technical questions about Algodoo. It is a much better resource for information than Algobox is. In fact, there's a good chance that many of your questions have already been answered in the Forum. You just have to search for those answers.

@Xray-Not trying to defend (or offend) anyone but concerning what you said about the FORUM in your comment,I have also tried to log-in there multiple times but it straight up didn't work:The page would just tell me that my account isn't "activated".Maybe others came around this same issue and as such didn't manage to log-in in the first place. (Please don't ban me for possibly having unwanted opinions by making this comment) (also sorry for acting like an admin recently)
@MasterGamer -- We never ban a person for expressing their opinion about a subject as long as what they post does not violate the Rules or the TOS (such as using profanity or threatening another person).

Maybe the reason why you and others were not able to log into the Forum was due to the fact that the Forum requires a separate log-in account from Algobox. That is a complaint that people have had since the early days when Algodoo was in development. You may register with the same user name and password as you registered on Algobox, or you may elect to use a different one, but regardless of the name and password that you decide to use, you must REGISTER. After you register on the Forum, there should be no problem from that point on. As a suggestion, it's recommended to register on the Forum with the same user name that you use on Algobox so that others will know who you are (that's true as long as someone else hasn't already registered with your user name that you use on Algobox).

Hope this helps....
fair play! obviously allot of work went into this Xray!
I bet this comment will never get seen.
