Exact Solution.

Trick question: What is the significance of the gear arrangement shown in this scene?

Hybrid gears have the look of spur gears and the strength and performance of circle gears. Hide the circle borders to completely hide the circles.

Rev A: Hybrid gears of different tooth count now have same circle tooth size.

Rev B: Added GUI.

GearMaker beta1 fix The Linkage 6.1 (3 votes) 892 2 2018/03/29 20:47:28

Very impressive work! Excellent coding (and, holy cow, with COMMENTS!). The tooth profiles look perfect, and I'm not even a "gearhead". This scene is a solid 10.
Pretty nice!
I found out that my way of generating the c-gears always changed the tooth size, so it's basically broken.

I guess I'll see if I can integrate this into the generator later. The new scene.my's are getPhaseAngle and a modified drawExtGear, right?

Also, what's the difference between reflection.executecode() and eval()? I've used eval before and i don't really find any difference between both, but i want to know just in case
Xray,
Thanks.

The Linkage,
S: C-gears always changed the tooth size, so it's basically broken.
R: I assume you are talking about internal C-gears. You could make custom internal/external C-gear combinations, but that would take some effort. Internal spur gears are now broken in your latest modification to GearMaker beta1.

Q: The new scene.my's are getPhaseAngle and a modified drawExtGear, right?
A: Yes.

Q: Also, what's the difference between reflection.executecode() and eval()?
A: I don't know.

No, I meant external too. If you made two hybrid gears of different tooth count and made their pitch circles touch, they would not spin effortlessly because even though they [should] have the same "module" the circle tooth size was different (slightly smaller on the smaller gear, as if it was scaled down).

And the internal hybrid gears and racks were just tests, not really finished at all. I'll try to integrate this if I have any time, and maybe try my luck with the internal gears, but as soon as i have some time
OK. Internal spur gears and spur gear racks worked OK in an earlier version of GearMaker but now don't work at all.
s_noonan - I give up! What is the answer to your "Trick Question"?
Hint: What number do the gears look like?
Ummmm.... 800? 100? 8 infinity? :bonk:
Yes, this is my 800(th) scene.
Oy vey!

can you make the gear segmented in bigget scale?
it look ugly when not
No, that's not going to happen. If you cut a gear into pieces and then glue all the pieces together, the the teeth will look sharper.
