This clock is powered by a miniature nuclear reactor which converts water
into steam. The steam rotates an internal turbine which in turn rotates the
clock gears. This clock is over 100 years old, and in spite of its age and rotted
copper pipes, it still keeps pretty good time!

Not smoke, it's steam. The nuclear reactor heats the water which creates the steam.
