s_noonan offered others to improve his scene, and that's what I tried to do here. I was able to increase the speed of the mechanism, but I'm not so sure if I made any improvements to its reliability. It does run without falling apart, so I guess that qualifies it as being reliable!

I made no major changes. I only tweaked a few parameters such as the mass of each object, and I reduced the air friction multiplier, and I made a few other minor tweaks.

Yep. That's better. I wonder if there are any modifications similar to those used for making strong and fast tank treads (which I'm not sure how to do) that can be used to improve on this. Another way to improve it may be to simplify the linkage, which is what I think RastaMoose did.
I'm sure there are a lot of incremental improvements that can be done which overall would improve how mechanical things behave. It just takes a lot of time and experimentation to discover what works and what doesn't work.
