Inline 4 Diesel Engine
Me and Gent are working on an Inline 4 Diesel Engine. This will be the first actual Diesel Engine on Algodoo.com this will be the same compression the same design and the same EVERYTHING as a true diesel engine.
This engine will have 4 pistons and a compression ratio of 16.2:1, 100mm bore, and 130mm stroke aprox 4"x5".
If anyone wants to help out with our engine you are more then welcome to !

@ Kilinich what is the spawn script to make spawned circles be traveling the same speed as a
vehicle? Instead of getting left behind?
Thanks in advance

Just be thinking about the fuel system for now I hope to have the bottom end finished this evening
but I'm not sure if you will like it so hang on for now

Okay ill search on some fuel systems for inline 4 diesels and figure out how to implement that into algodoo

Oh, well, you need a simple laser probe to calculate engine velocity and add it to spawning circles.

ok ive been thinking and i still need to check some more things out but how do we plan to do the controllable throttle? are we going to have real fuel or just make this a spawn and kill engine?

Re: Inline 4 Diesel Engine
I think we need "fuel" to simulate a "diesel" otherwise its just a spawn kill engine like 100s of others
I have several ideas that should make this a torque monster including but not limited to,
hybrid spawn/collision tech, "gun" style tapered accellerators for the spawned circles and massive attraction
on the killers
The injectors will be the biggest challenge and should be cam opperated like a Cummins or Detroit
I also want to have a cooling system so whatever you make dont have it collide with water
I'm not fast at this and have tons of other things going on so expect this project to take weeks
I spent the better part of a month making my 9 cylinder radial
PS I had a busy day, yea thats me and yea I built the plane
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiv31jUS0zs
PSS I want this to be as educational as possible

Thanks, that was VERY scary
You might think about making a nice radiator? And look into the smoke effect for the exhaust
PS this scene is a model of the 2 cylinder version of the 084 4 cylinder on my plane

Re: Inline 4 Diesel Engine
Hmm.. If you guys need a "scripting guy" I am joining this collab, I can make the smoke effect for the exhaust, work in the "power" of th engine but I can also do some mechanics too, I've developed a interesting way to make the cam used in the injectors and some other ideas.
Can I join ?

Yeah you can join glad to have you!
Download the bottom end of the engine off of gent's profile and you can start to make the exhaust system, now remember its a diesel so it will spew out ALOT of black smoke.

Re: Inline 4 Diesel Engine
Actually, modern diesels make very little black smoke, if any.
Also, this Volcano scene (credit Nisheeth) will give you close to what you want for smoke:
A good velocity code (credit davidz40) is this:
[textureMatrix(0), textureMatrix(1)] gives the x and y velocity in meters per second.
MAKE SURE YOU CALL THIS IN AN ALTERNATING COLLIDER, SO YOU GET EXACTLY 50 Hz!

- Code: Select all
textureMatrix = [(e.pos(0) - textureMatrix(2)) * 50, (e.pos(1) - textureMatrix(3)) * 50, e.pos(0), e.pos(1), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0]

Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

@ Somenone Else Nice help, but havent you seen my smoke scene ? I plan to do some adjustements in the smoke so that it fits the kind of smoke from the exhaust.
@ PooPingDung I am bit confused My 2D and 3D visions are getting mixed, should I do all the pipes for the exhaust system or ..
EDIT: Based on Gent's scene I made smoke have 0.05 m in a diameter and it seems nice the device is ready now and works oncollide. Should I upload the spawner so that one of you attach it to the engine ?

Re: Inline 4 Diesel Engine
@Gear97 We are still working the fuel process out me and gent lets wait since the fuel has to act like diesel fuel and have the properties as diesel fuel not just a plain spawner.
@Someone Else Thanks but I dont really like your smoke in the scene since its very slow and doesnt look like diesel exhaust and doesnt act like diesel exhaust.
@gear97 (Again) just work out the exhaust Codes and the actual smoke annd work on the muffler (Not the pipes to the engine) just the muffler box itself, try to make the smoke act like diesel smoke as much as you can.

OK made a little progress valves in place, now I know where to put the cam shaft and lobes
I tried to leave as much room as possible for the injectors and still have realistic and functional valves
