Yet another C-engine walker

Postby Ravenplucker » Wed Aug 17, 2011 2:51 pm

Hi everyone. I made a c-engine walker awhile back, but deleted it because I wasn't happy.

I think this one is a little better. It uses a better engine and a Klann linkage.

I dunno. There haven't been too many scenes posted so I thought I'd post this one.

Work perfectly for me in 1.9.8 and I've got to say, it is a very nice mechanism that you made here  It is awesome to watch it to walk :D .
10/10
ps: It is a Klan linkage, isn't it ? :?:
Gears are my favorite mechanism. Why do you think I have this username ? ;)
Make sure to spend some time to see my work http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/profile.php?id=96, just to kill sometime ;)

Thanks!

Yeah it's a Klann linkage.

EDIT: Turns out this guy is quite scalable. I got him down to 0.357 x 0.433 m (including legs) :D

Interesting work. I approve of your mechanism.

But what about a transmission? That would make this scene really cool.
Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

I've been working on a mechanical transmission for awhile now. I can't quite get them working, at higher speeds they always spaz out. I just thought I'd post this guy, since I haven't posted in awhile.

I'm also working on reducing the jittering from the engine by making it "float" in a frame. Results should be interesting.

I think my Thymechanical gearbox is close to what you might want, if it were possible to make it use only a couple collideSets.
This may in fact be possible, with a bit more Thyme...

You could loophole the high-speed-spaz-out by gearing down the input to the transmission a bit, then gearing the output back up.

Or, I suppose you could follow RaRa's lead:

I know how to make the thymechanical ones, but it's the mechanical ones that are difficult.

Now RaRa's scene... that has some serious potential. I had never considered using that approach. All of my designs were more along the lines of this one:

Very interesting. The gearbox you didn't make, this latest walker you did make, and the proto-gearbox in that same scene.
The first two in that list work fine in 1.8.5, the third doesn't, but it seems to be still under construction.

Still a Klann linkage, right?

I made a mechanical gearbox once, it consisted of four discs of various sizes fitted around a larger disc. It worked okay.

I'm currently thinking about how to make my Thymechanical one use only one or two collideSets.
Hmm.......... lasers...
