Softwheel

Postby Kilinich » Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:40 am

I've try to make stable spring-based soft-wheel
Usual, hinge-based softwheels jitter a lot and makes vehicle shakes.
This one is steady and looks pretty realistic.

I like it
I like the abstract tank you used :)

But, when you add more speed, smth like 150, with the same strength, it sucks, because the circles go crazy then :problem:

But it's nice ;)

Dramatically improved soft-wheel of that design.
Much more reliable! I've test it on 400RPM.
Easily can be tweaked via density and spring strength.
Simple to make textured one. Bonus - shadowing example.

Strange bug I've notice: In Phun wheels works perfectly, in Algodoo they shakes a lot, especially on "bridge". Please try open it in Algodoo and in Phun - do you have same behavior ?

At 500 - 600 Hz it stops shaking. Emil changed some values (2 or 3) in Algodoo which change the behaviour of collisions. I bet that's the reason for the shaking wheels

Nothing similar, really. My idea was not to use hinges at all.
Thanks, but It's not a motion blur - it's just a shadow :P

the shadows dont really work on sorf wheels as the shadows dont move, but the wheels do. For example. when the wheels are half squashed down, the shawdows go infront of the plane.

True. So you can bring planes and scenery on the front or change shadow so it's not affect edge of tyre.
