@ProfessionalSudo -- Algoryx, the company that owns Algodoo (the app) and Algobox (this file-sharing website), produces and markets many excellent software products for industry and for education. They created Algodoo as a spin-off product from their original "low-end" physics simulation app they called "Phun" back in 2008. Algodoo was sold for a small price when it was released as a finished product, then the company decided to provide it free of cost a short time later. You are correct that they do not make money directly from Algodoo or Algobox, but they do make money indirectly because many customers who have used Algodoo need more powerful software products for their business, their research facility, or for their educational facility, and have subsequently graduated to the higher-end software products. Algodoo is a 2D simulator, and their higher-end software products have 3D simulation capabilities which are needed for many sophisticated or complex projects.
I am not an employee of the company, therefore what I am telling you here is from my own personal experience over the years while using and enjoying Algodoo, and while performing the duties as the Algobox Admin. By the way, this job is voluntary. I do not get paid for doing it.
If you have any other questions about the company or its software products I suggest that you contact them directly. You can find a "contact us" link somewhere on this website. They are located in Sweden.
Yes I know I can take it down if I want. That goes without saying. But since it was copied so many times I would probably have to spend many hours of my time trying to find every scene in the Algobox archive that copied it, but I don't plan on doing that because I have better things to do with my time. My wife makes sure of that.
Currently, I am the only Admin who is active here on Algobox. There are other guys who are designated as Admin, but none of them have been active for many years, and it seems they no longer have an interest in it. As long as I am able to do the job, I plan to stick around.
Anyone who is interested in being an Admin should have the following qualifications:
1. At least 18 years old.
2. Be able to communicate well (via text) with others from young children to educated adults.
3. Have at least a basic understanding of physics and math.
4. Be able to dedicate some time every day to watching over Algobox, making sure that the rules are followed.
5. Be able to assertively and fairly discipline users who break the rules.
6. Be able to demonstrate a history of uploading non-trivial scenes on Algobox.
NOTE: Currently there is no "official" list of qualifications for new Admins. This list that I made here are things that I personally believe should be the qualifications but the final decision would be from an employee of Algoryx (most likely Emanuel). Emanuel is my "boss", and he has the final say when it comes to any decision or concern which is beyond my own limited authority as Admin. He is the one who decides who and when a new Admin should be appointed.
So, currently, we do not need another Admin, but thanks for your interest.
That's great, finns, and I hope that someone took the time to teach you gun SAFETY. A gun (even a BB gun) in the hands of an untrained child is a disaster waiting to happen!
Since you are only 7 years old, you are too young to use a BB gun by yourself without adult supervision. A BB gun is not a toy. So I hope a responsible adult stores the BB gun in a safe place until you and the adult are shooting it. You will understand what I am telling you when you get older and wiser.
I don't think the lag is caused by the fact that you are running Windows 10. It's more likely due to the limited amount of memory you have, and also the speed of your processor.
I also use Windows 10 on my computer, and the scene runs normally until it produces large amounts of "blood". Then it lags badly (actually freezes up) for a few seconds until the blood disappears. Scenes that produce a lot of anything (boxes, circles, and especially water) will cause computer lag unless you happen to own a high-end gaming computer. Unfortunately, most of us do not own that kind of computer.
What you made here is called a "spring engine" because it gets its power from an unstable string which has a negative damping factor. Also, your steam engine doesn't show any functional valves. There needs to be a valve on the steam input port to the cylinder, and a valve on the exhaust port.
So, it's a good start, but it needs a few changes in order to function like a true "steam engine".
If you search Algodoo for "steam engine" (include the quotes) you will see lots of examples of steam engines. Some are really well made and other are poorly made, but you can learn a lot from them.
