I'm the first person to admit that I'm no expert in ANY field. I just made a "seat of my pants" evaluation without doing any of the hard work of testing and evaluating this device. That's all I am claiming. I looked at it as a noisy, complex jumble of gears, lead screws, hinges and other mechanical devices and said to myself, "That could probably be simplified with two separate lead screws and two cranks." It would require more motions to clamp an object in my version of the device, but it would be simpler and less expensive. I had no intention of insulting the design of the device. Lord knows I am not qualified to do so! It was just an observation.
Thanks
EDIT: The scene has been greatly improved. Nice work.
Algodoo is truly an amazing physics simulation program (or App) that can do a lot of amazing things, and it's only limited by the person using it. Although this scene uses a primitive form of raycasting (also called "Ray Tracing") I did not develop it. I copied the 3D rendering part of the scene from someone else's scene and modified a significant portion of it to make it work for my own purpose. Much of it was "trial and error" (probably more error than trial! LOL).
JP - Date Added is the date that a particular scene was uploaded to Algobox. That scene could have been copied and uploaded multiple times in the past, and Date Added will always be the date that a future person uploads his/her own copy of the scene. So, really, it is no indication as to when it was originally uploaded by the original author.
Just a thought: I was wondering if putting a "Quick Release Nut" on each screw would be useful, and without adding too much complexity to the overall design. Your thoughts?
Quote: "now we don't really know if the speed of light is equal in all directions,"
Reply: Well, actually we DO! According to Professor Einstein, the velocity of light in a vacuum is the same for all observers. Therefore, we need not worry if light moves faster or slower in different directions. Problem solved!
Yes, I've seen that excellent video by Veritasium. I have just a basic understanding of Einstein's special and general theories of relativity which is barely enough required to have an intelligent discussion with another science enthusiast like yourself. So, I'd better quit at this point before I say something which is untrue or inaccurate. I avoid that as much as possible!
You have a line of script in that box: radius = radius + 0.08; Only a circle has a radius, not a box. You can easily fix that by converting the box into a circle.
Well, now that I understand how to play this game, it's actually pretty cool! I did have to stop the camera following because it was causing me motion sickness. LOL Anyhow, if you stop the following and zoom out a little, the game runs just fine and doesn't make me sick.
While inserting or removing the various shaped work pieces, if I happen to bump or nudge the small blue snap-in tips (I don't know the technical terms for the various components of the vise), the blue tips fly out of the yellow snap-in holders and float away. I was able to make the blue tips stay put more tenaciously by increasing the adhesion of the various components. You might have a different way to correct this issue.
Other than that, the scene works quite well. Nice work.
