This is a open bolt mechanism that is used in the British Sterling Machine gun that I have figured out and made from the schematic diagrams found online.

To operate; select your fire mode via the selector switch, then pull the trigger (gently).

Notice on the semi automatic mode that the sear returns to its original position once the trigger is pulled and will stay until the trigger is reset to its original position.

If you can improve this design that would be great as I'm aware its rather delicate and somewhat flimsy.

If you decide to use this it would be nice to give me some credit but obviously you don't have to.:+

your selector seems reversed! full auto functions like semi, and vice-versa. Excellent example by the way (despite selector positions seeming to be reversed). It could use some improvements as far as making the sear stay up on the release of the trigger, possibly using a strut instead of a cam. This is excellent, and I see a good potential for future firearms built by you!

The mechanism seems rather shaky or unstable. It settles down some when I increase the sim frequency to 100, but the mechanism is still kind of sloppy, and it doesn't seem to function correctly. I'm sure with a little tweaking and some help from ngphil, it could become a reliable and smooth operating mechanism. :tup:

You got some big density trouble there. Also if you change the polygons with more basic parts like boxes and circles it will work way better on lower frequencies
