This is an experiment to see if an inexpensive reflective optical switch can be used for accurate position detection. The stage sweeps back and forth past the peak sensor output and mathematically constructs a 2nd degree polynomial through three points and then determines the precise point on the peak where the slope of the curve is zero. This approach should be more accurate than triggering off of a fixed voltage level because, in that case, the trigger point may be affected by the amount of surface reflection or voltage supply variation.

Rev: Added chart and dot voltage indicator.

Is the sensor supposed to oscillate back and forth after it stops at POS 1.0?
Yes, it is updating the value after each oscillation. It needs to oscillate in order to determine where the peak value is. Its response is an inverted parabola. If it is too far away or too close the signal drops off. That's the best I can do with a $2.31 sensor.

That's awesome (and only $2.31)!
Nice job on all 3 scenes!
Thanks.
