The crash of a Boeing 747 over the Taiwan Strait was a major aviation disaster that occurred on Saturday, May 25, 2002. China Airlines Flight CI 611 (call sign Dynasty 611) was scheduled to fly from Taipei to Hong Kong when it suddenly broke apart and crashed into the Taiwan Strait 25 minutes after takeoff. All 225 people on board—206 passengers and 19 crew members—were killed.

The cause of the crash was mechanical wear of fasteners due to poor repair of the tail section following an earlier damage.

As of 2023, the crash of Flight 611 remains the deadliest (in terms of fatalities) in the history of the Republic of China.
