Algodoo

Works just like my previous image recognition scene, but made of spring neurons instead of laser neurons. This means line-of-sight is not needed, and nothing has to be re-aimed when one neuron is moved.
3x3 input is fed into neural network. 8 weighted sums perform convolutions on the image and determine what it is, or what it's composed of, depending on how you look at it.
