Be careful when gluing pistons to blocks; they may stop working altogether if you don't:
CTRL + ALT + click the base(gray side) or head(orange side)
CTRL + SHIFT + click the part you want the base attached to
Right click on either selected part to open Edit
Edit > Geometry actions > Glue together
