"Infrared" Lasers
I think that lasers should have a check box inside the appearance menu to make the laser infrared. The only difference between an infrared laser and a normal laser is that the laser beam is not visible on the infrared laser. The appearance tab could be used to change the look of just the laser pen. Everything else would work the same.

You can do this yourself. Why not make the laser fully transparent?

just making it transparent just changes the color of the body, make the laser black

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
when you make the laser transparent, it doesn't work anymore
because then you just have a laser that has no power and doesnt give any light

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
transparent is just no laser
infrared acts like a normal laser, but only you can't see it, right?

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
just checked it out. Transparency only affects the pen (you can still see the laser), but if you make the laser black, it's invisible and still does stuff.

Really, It doesn't work for me. Let me upload a scene, see if it works for you. 1 second.
EDIT:
Alright, it's up. The two lasers are identical except the one on left is black and the one on the right is white. It should make anything it hits turn cyan.

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
ah, yes. Apparently, black lasers work as cutters, but not for scripts
I would suggest changing the name of this thread to "Black lasers run scripts"
Also, if it is one notch brighter than black it works and is almost invisible.
EDIT:
Set value to one notch above black
Set saturation all the way up
set hue to the color of the sky
completely invisible. If a cloud rolls by, It's slightly visible. So, turn clouds off!

Infrared are pretty much the same as a laser but they don't reflect light as well making them invisible.

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
you can use a weird color, which should be near-invisible. something like[0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 1] should be enough, and un-noticeable at the same time(unless you're a super pro!)
Paradigm used this in one of the algodoo beta rangefinders, so that the laser doesn't reflect. before the change had been made, i told him about the MaxRays variable... but that's out of question.

Re: "Infrared" Lasers

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
kinda defeats the purpose. Just change the color back to something other than black.

You could still see the laser pen. And maybe when the simulation is paused.

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
like you don't see the laser when the sim is running, but you do when it is paused...
so make an option in the option menu: show infra-red lasers.

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
but why all the "infrared business? If black lasers worked with scripts, then we wouldn't have to worry about anything.

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
I am 100% for making a little loophole allowing black lasers to function normally and invisibly, even though they're impossible in real life. It would be cool and make it possible to make invisible non-colliding sensors for game-making and such.
Made some cool stuff a long time ago

Re: "Infrared" Lasers
Contrary to some beliefs, infrared lasers are visible, just not to us, regularly. You just need to make goggles from red and blue lenses and you can see them. This works in Algodoo too, if you keep the original blue background color, all you have to do is match the laser color too. Go to the script menu and change the color too [0,0,1,1] and there you have it. We can't see it, normaly (you can see it on clouds), but the all seeing eye of Algodoo can, for it knows not of colors.
I am Alpha and Omega, the beggining and the end.
