Killer planes in wrong place, hinges stretched, etc

If you have problems installing or running Algodoo, have found a bug or need in-game help - this is it!

Killer planes in wrong place, hinges stretched, etc

Postby standardtoaster » Tue Sep 01, 2009 11:04 pm

Since I couldn't use as many characters as I would've liked to in the subject I will continue with what I wanted to say. I have had this happen to me before in Algodoo: phun edition. Somehow, upon opening a scene or making a new one and relaunching it puts the 4 killer planes all in the center, stretches hinges, and moves objects. Here are some screenshots of what happens.

4 killer planes in the center
4 killer planes in the center and hinges stretched.

I deleted config.cfg and autoexec.cfg and that did not fix it like it did in Algodoo: phun edition.

I need help! :S I can't do anything without this being fixed.

Here's what I did before this happened:

I opened Algodoo, everything was fine. I made a circle and was messing around with scaling. I then made a new scene and this bug happened. How would I fix this if I can?

well, the stretched hinges seems to be because something attached to the circle is trying to get out of the ground

as for the killer planes, try reinstalling algodoo?

None of the pre-beta testers were on mac, so that means there will probably be a slightly higher number of bugs for now. I'm sure that Toaster is proud to be the first one to find the bug so that all other mac people can be happy :P

Yeah theres nothing that really bad except for...

Pretty much no games for it
Harder to find programs for it
Hardware you have to get through Apple most of the time and can't just go to Target and pick up a CD drive.

Enough mac bashing!!! Pay attention to the bug report not the fact that I use an OS that not many phunners use.

Don't know why this bug happened though. I reset Algodoo and now it is back to normal.

Don't know why this happened in the first place though... It was working fine when I first got it.

Bad scene that might have changed some code?

I know why :).

I talked to Emil about this (quite a while ago :), by email), as thyme is of a lower priority, protection against poor coding will be much less the focus, so, I don't think this is a problem :).

Emil Ernerfeldt wrote:Well, for starters, declaring a variable "size" is a bad thing, since
that will foul up the deserialization of boxes and stuff.

This was his response when I talked to him :) (I missed one variable in the configuration file when I was going through :D , also, there was more in the emails, this is just the important part).

Make sure, if you have a problem like this again, to check that any item attributes are not in the config.cfg file.

I'm on a mac and I've had no problems yet. But when they were beta testing, why didn't they give one to a mac user (e.g. me )...

Or me. ;)

This bug has been fixed for me but it just needs to be looked into.

What do you mean fixed? It just stopped happening or? Please describe what you did, if anything.

I think it was deleting the file config.cfg (bad code, involving [ROOT] scope variables seeping into local scope variables, making them unreadable). But, I think, provided users don't write bad code, this is not a large problem :D .

By "fixed" I meant that it no longer happens to me but could still be an issue.

Sorry for the bump/double post. But it happened to me again! :x This time, I dragged a .phz from my downloads onto Algodoo to load the scene and when it loaded everything was in the wrong place!
