Controlled movement
Does anyone know of a mechanism that can move something exactly a certain distance (like 1 metre) in Algodoo?
Preferably without Thyme.
Preferably without Thyme.

I meant...
Say I have a car and I want it to move exactly one metre forwards or backwards.
How would I do that?

Wouldn't a piston with a box on it do that?
(I just did this quickly, because it's just an example, if you actually build it yourself, you could make a few modifications to make it look better). If you wanted to, you could place a cage around (updated the scene while writing this post with a cage-like structure, and setting it up so the piston only does one rotation before stopping).
There are lots of other ways to do it, but this may be the simplest

Re: Controlled movement
Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
I want to have this vehicle move a set distance repeatedly when triggered (once per trigger), and which is triggered by something that could have come from another mechanism, like a laser or a rod moving. The mechanism must be able to move with the vehicle.

I've edited the old scene and added the system you requested, it works by stopping the circle from moving until you press enter, when you press enter, the restriction is released, this is how a lot of sequenced guns work.

Also, it didn't wait for me to press enter anyway. Also the signal of pressing enter couldn't come from another mechanism. This is to be used in an automated machine.

It does, I think you may be looking at the wrong place, type:
- Code: Select all
Scene.Camera.pan = [8.854734,0.4338217]
into the console.

You could lower a spinning wheel onto the restricting wheel, achieving what you want, or make a gear that can move the circle, (cut part of it off, which determines how long in between each movement). And if you were using Thyme, you could use a code like:
- Code: Select all
motor = {(Sim.time % <x>) < <y>}
Where <x> is the amount in between each movement + <y>.
Where <y> is the amount of time to run.
If you want the other part to be the running time (the time in between each movement) then:
- Code: Select all
motor = {! ((Sim.time % <x>) < <y>)}
Hopefully this helps

Re: Controlled movement
Give the car square wheels with a width of one meter, then have it just move the wheels to the next side.
- Code: Select all
If post is over then
Print Signature$
end if

you would want considerable friction
