PoC Robotic Arm

Postby Paradigm 29 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 4:48 am

This is a robotic arm that you can program to go places and pick up stuff and move it around. It was on the verge of becoming a novelty, but since Grady was able to optimize the codes, reducing the overall lag to 0, it is probably going to be a main component of the next scene I make.

It only has 5 easily programmable waypoints. You could increase the number of easily programmable waypoints as high as you want, but I chose to just use 5 for the concept. You can also control whether the claw is open or closed.

it's awesome. since i made my robotic arm i always had the idea of making it automatic in my mind but until now i didn't do anything except a function for the position input of the arm.
your arm is pretty precise i like it.

btw...
i looked at V1 of this scene. doesn't lag on my pc. even at 100% simulation speed. seems like it only lags on some PCs

Regardless, adding enough waypoints would eventually get any computer to lag. Grady changed the way it evaluates them or some sort of magic stuff along those lines.

ah i see, maybe i take a look at it. sounds interesting, mainly because the scripting god has his fingers in the pie :D

[edit]
hmm ok, interesting how grady put together the points. i don't know what he's done because i never saw this kind of code. without the end it looks like my code where i just throw all points into one function.
can anyone explain what this means?:
Code: Select all
eval("Scene.my.program(" + functionData(objectPoint)(0) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(1) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(2) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(3) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(4) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(5) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(6) + "," + functionData(objectPoint)(7) + ")")

@Karatebrot: That has got to be one of the wierdest analogies I have ever heard.

Nice scene! Would have been cool if you could change the automation sequences easily.
