Script Menu

Postby Wild Bill » Thu Dec 27, 2012 9:07 pm

I am using 2.0.2 b9 and I tried to scroll down the oncollide which is a long list in this case and it doesnt show the full list, it stops at scene.my..........

Just a bunch of dots and not the rest of the script so I click and the list expands but its too long to fit on the screen so I try to move the script menu like you used to be able to do so I can see farther down the list and it closes the oncollide. This seems to be new and I cant find a way to view farther down, what do you do to see the rest of the oncollide list without it closing when you move the menu or is there a work around.

Thanks.

We have a work around!

We call it copy and paste, and a good notepad editor!
I personally prefer notepad++ but using standard notepad will work fine!

I have found another work-around that I used quite often before getting a text editor. With the script menu open, and your large OnCollide script collapsed, left click inside the area containing your code. The black area containing your code will expand, and there will be a thin green border around it. As long as that green border is showing, the script will collapse as soon as you try to scroll down to see the rest of your script. Before you try to scroll, OPEN and then CLOSE the console! The green border will go away, and you will be able to scroll all the way to the bottom of your huge script program! But once you click inside the script area to make changes, the green border will show again, which means that the script will collapse if you try to scroll it again. So, make your edits, then click outside the script so that your edits will be saved.

If you need to make more edits, just do the same procedure.

One caveat: If you have more than one edit to make, do one at a time, and allow the script to collapse after each edit. If you try to make an edit near the top of the script, then do the OPEN/CLOSE console trick, then edit something else in a different area of the script, you will lose the previous edit! I learned that the hard way. So just do one edit at a time (which could be an entire line of code, or even multiple lines within the same area).

The BEST method to use is what was mentioned by electronicboy, a good text editor. But if you do not have one, then this other work-around should work for you. It has worked well for me before I downloaded Notepad++.

Thanks Xray! I have been using notepad buts it a hassle when all you need is a quick change, I hope it goes back to the old way. Its more work to open another program, copy paste, make the changes then replace the script.
