My Solution To ATI Card Crashing

Postby Wild Bill » Tue Jan 31, 2012 6:50 pm

This may work for other ATI card users that are having problems. I have always had both Phun Algodoo Edition and what ever the most current version of Algodoo was at the time up to version 1.8.5, each was in its own folder and I had no problems for a very long time until version 2.0.0.

Then I installed v 2.0.0 in its own folder and it ran the first time I opened it but it ran slow. Then I test ran v 1.8.5 and it ran slow also but it never had done that before. I tried to open v 2.0.0 and it crashed and wouldnt open again. After much hastle and trying different drivers somehow it opened again but again it ran slow. I closed it and tried v 1.8.5 and it was slow again. But the next time I opened v 2.0.0 it just crashed on splash screen again so I gave up for a while.

Then I realized that v 2.0.0 would run until I opened any other version then it would just crash from then on and it would'nt open again until I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. What seemed to be happening was that if I ran a different version of Phun or Algodoo it would damage the drivers (seems impossible to me but whatever) and v 2.0.0 would start crashing and all other versions would run slow until an uninstall and re-install of drivers.

I have tested this many times now and that is the case at least for this computer. I now have v 2.0.2 up and running at a reasonable speed and with no problems and have since finally made and uploaded a new scene using v 2.0.2. So if you have the same symptoms, dont click on any version other than v 2.0.0 or later and uninstall/re-install your card drivers. (Also my computer has a primary and secondary driver and they have to both be the correct driver of Algodoo will rum very slow).

I hope this helps someone.
