Make the UI More PC Friendly

Postby Paradigm 29 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 7:40 pm

I suggest that there be an option to change the UI from the current context based menu to the old Right Click pop-up menus. It always felt more natural to be able to right click on an object and have the menu right there instead of going back and forth between the things you're editing and the menu.

I understand that Algodoo is meant to be easy to use on a touch screen or a tablet, but it would be nice if there were an option that made PC use easier as well. For example, in advanced mode there are options for clone, erase, geometry controllers, a destroy and mirror key, and default materials. All of these options are irrelevant to someone using advanced mode on a PC. I never erase or clone with the buttons because it's easier to press delete and using Ctrl to clone places my clone directly over my original shape.

Stuff like this could make the UI more friendly. Being able to choose what buttons you want in your menus would get rid of the stuff you don't use without giving up the necessary options (like scripting) that would be disabled in simple or medium mode.

yeah i miss the old menu. it was easier and faster. How about when you turn on the touch screen option it changes it to the current menus, and by default its the old pre-Beta 5 menus?

The good thing about the old UI is that it took up less space. Less space when it popped up, and it didn't pop up unless I wanted it to. It was better for more advanced users for sure. For people making less complicated things, I couldn't say. The fade-away feature added in Algodoo helps the clutter problem of the new UI, but it still isn't as good. If some sort of option for the old UI could be added, I would be very happy to get the left quarter of my screen back.

I agree, the right click menu is more convenient than the tablet PC style. Crayon Physics has this option and it makes life a lot easier.

I remember when i open up beta 4 after a long time of using beta 5, and I had forgotten how much I missed the old GUI. So, take head Emil, we want the old GUI back!

Major support. Moving between the property menu and object makes me waste a lot of my time. For one action, it takes less than a second more than right clicking. But if you multiply it by a few hundred times...
It's inconvenient anyways. Even though I am currently on a tablet PC, the tablet is really unreliable.
