Algodoo does not start

Algodoo does not start, it gives me the splash, a silouhette of a window appears, then I get a "don't send" error. What to do?

Windows XP 86x (i think)
~1500 MB ram
ATI Radeon x550

Error does not happen when I try to play versions below somewhere around 1.7.5 or something like that, anything above that crashes.

Algodoo switched to the QT framework in algodoo 1.8.5

Im sorry, but it looks like your GPU is unable to cope with the latest version of algodoo...

Actually, Qt is only used in Algodoo 2.0.
Are you sure you cannot run Algodoo 1.8.5?

Another ATI card with the same symptoms I have and mine also started with 2.0.0.

I don't know, I think 1.8.5 didn't work either, dunno how to check now.

But yes, I do know my PC does not support OpenGL, I remember running another program,

I would not believe there is such an alternate mode for algodoo physics demo?

The ATI Radeon x550 is from 2002. It's an ooold card. Never the less, it should work with Algodoo (allbeit slowly) by switching off shaders.

First of all, try the 2.0.1 beta: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=5108&start=0#p54175

The beta switches off the 2.0 load screen translucensy on Windows XP, which has caused problems for some.

If it still doesn't work with 2.0.1, you need to give us your Logfile.txt or we won't be able to see what's wrong.

Can't see why it crashed - please try b4, which has more debug spam at startup: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=5108&p=54175#p54175

Oh, and try creating a config.cfg in My Documents/Algodoo/ (replace if already exists) with just this line:

Resources.shaders = false;

I am using 2.0.1 beta, like you told me. And, trying the solution, will edit if it worked.

Edit: How do I create a .cfg?
Edit 2: Nevermind, managed to create one, still doesn't work, so I'll give a more detailed look of the problem. Algodoo splash pops up, closes very fast, then the algodoo window starts to open, I can see the borders of the window and the name, and before it loads the contents I get a don't send. Will supply a screenshot if needed, or someone might want to open a TeamViewer session.

Last edit: And after all, Ati Radeon x550 is one of those video cards whose drivers are not supported for updates at the AMD site anymore.

If you send me the Logfile.txt from beta 4 (released today) I may still be able to figure out what when wrong, but it could simply be that your graphics card is too old.

Back at the office - you are not being ignored. But this is a tough nut to crack. It is pretty hard to understand why it crashes for you and not anyone else (as far as I know).

Looking at your logfile, there seems to be something wrong - it obviously loads a config file from an older version, which means that you can't have succeeded in creating a new config.cfg to replace it. Please go into My Documents/Algodoo/ and make sure there are no files there (though keep the folders - esepcially your scene folder!).

Also, go into My Documents/Algodoo/scenes/ and remove _ONEXITSAVE.phz and _AUTOSAVE.phn

I am working on a new binary that will print a lot of debug information into the logfile at startup, and I will give you a link to this later today.

Please be patient, and know I'm doing my best to help you!

Sorry, tried that too, didn't work. Just gonna stick with 1.8.5 until this is fixed, if it's ever fixed.

Edit: No, that logfile was before I got 1.8.5, so it couldn't be that.

I did notice the date, is it wrong or did I give you the wrong file?

I also noticed that all of the folders in my documents are empty except for the scene one which contains a newly created onexitsave.

That is indeed a logfile from an older version. Just remove all the .cfg and .txt from My Documents/Algodoo/ and the run the beta 5

Do you have to do anything to make it crash? Like starting the simulation or something? Because the '------------- START OF GAME LOOP -------------' thing means the startup process was completed successfully, and I am surprised that it then crashes after that.
