List of requested features and changes

Postby admin » Fri Sep 18, 2009 10:56 am

This post is sticky and we will update it continuously with a list of the requests that we recognize, and think make sense to consider. Feel free to post replies in this thread, but be warned that they will be regularly removed (unless really good ) and instead added to the bullet list below!

What follows is a list of request features, improvements and changes to the forums that we will consider, but we certainly can't promise to implement it all!

  • Forum themes/skins.
  • Quick links to Algobox, perhaps even with DB couplings for Title/Author/Description/Voting etc (copy/paste of forum code from Algobox works just fine though) (DONE!)
  • Quick replies (DONE!)
  • Cooler smilies :problem:   :wtf: (added ~10 more)
  • "Smilies" with Algodoo related icons
  • YouTube integration (DONE)
  • Custom user titles
  • Spoiler tags, that is, hidden messages in posts (DONE!)
  • Hmm, search function in the forums has gone missing. (DONE!)

About the smileys, we really don't care about how many there are...
All we want is that they are better quality ones. It would be great if the current ones could all get replaced with a better style, ideally round, png format with no or alpha anti-aliasing, pleasing to the eye, not animated, uniform, and not too big. (15x15 pixels is good.)
The ones on the phun forum are ideal, but I guess that for legal reasons we can't use those.

First, I'd like to apologize to Chronos for telling him I didn't like his smileys in the chat room.

Also, I'd like to announce an edited set of Chronos' smileys that better fit my taste.
Sorry If they look a little too much like the punBB ones, as I used some of them as reference.
Basically what I did is I changed the background and modified some facial features, especially the eyes.
Download them here (includes .psd file): http://stashbox.org/642643/smileset.zip

Comparison:

Edited ones:        Image

If there's anything I should change, just let me know.....

Suggestion for Wiki.

<code> tag's color is now #F9F9F9.
At least with my PC, #F9F9F9 is almost white and difficult to distinguish the difference between normal-sentence and code-sentence.
cf Creating Variables (wiki)

I suggest setting the color #F0F0F0 or so.

The code tags for the wiki look different, I agree with the suggestion, I hadn't even realised that there was a highlight for code tags, I thought it was just a different font.

I think #E0E0E0 is darkened enough  .

The original suggestion post contained an explanation of the subject.

Hopefully it's better explained :D

yeah, you put this:
Code: Select all
[youtube]VIDEO URL[/youtube]

and it embeds the youtube player for that video into the forum (unless the video has embedding disabled ;))

Youtube tag seems not to work well.

Is there working example of embedding in this forum?

I don't know. I think the Youtube tags are broken or something right now, I can't find a working one, but I have seen one before here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=295#p2422

FixedZ0rs. Earlier posts still don't work, but just edit and submit them again and they will work again!

I like the new quick reply. I have two suggestions. Could you make the text box that we reply in a bit shorter? It's a bit large for making a quick reply. My second suggestion would be having the smilies accessible when using quick reply. Other than that, I'm loving this!

eeh... i dont like that spoiler much. i think it should be like the quote tag, but its all hidden, and when you press a button, it all appears. its much more professional and more widespread :)

Pf, it's a spoiler tag.. Just triple click on the text and it all becomes visible :o

Or do you want me to make it slide out with some cool zwoosh-effect and then make it wobbly, make sparks come out when it slides out, and add an unreal-tournament-inspired "SPOILER FAIL" sound? That would make it really awesome!

No seriously, I don't see the use of complex spoiler tags

no, i mean like this

Image

it just looks a lot better than a huge black line. plus, the line goes all the way across the message, instead of just covering the text, so that wastes space

Why is there a 'Quote' button under the names now? It looks out of place IMO. I think it should be removed.
