Re: Bowling Alley
Subjective contests suck. So basically, your opinion dictates it?
That's retarded. Ratings should be completely objective in any decent contest. Numerical values that factually decide the winner without a shadow of a doubt. Unless it's a "Style" contest, but then why the hell should anyone care about your opinion of what "looks the coolest?"

Re: Bowling Alley
Theres nothing wrong with this contest, yes it is better if ratings are objective but subjective contests mean that people will try harder since they want to impress. In some cases extra credit is needed to structure the contest more and it is actually very hard to design a contest that only judges on one thing such as a time or score since that wont reward other people whose designs which may better.
Anyway, at least the guy has clearly read the rules.

Re: Bowling Alley
When a contest has no clearly defined winner, it is a complete waste of everyone's time. It is subject to bias, ignorance, opinions, etc. It's simply not a good contest. Now I'm aware that you're retarded too, so I would pretty much expect you to like this contest, but nevertheless when opinions go into the grading, the contest is flawed. Every contest should be structured to the point where there is one clear winner, and nothing is decided by the opinion of one over another.
Now I really don't care whether or not you like this contest, because historically opinionated contests have never caught on anyway.

Re: Bowling Alley
Yet another mediocre contest erupting into a flame war... sigh...
But anyway, I might be able to whip up an entry in 5 secs. if I wanted to, but I don't...

Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

Recently, I discovered something a lot of you probably already knew: Minecraft is awesome.
Due to this, I may not be as active as usual for a while.

Jrv, I wasn't disagreeing with you, just suggesting that not all contests in this style are bad. Some of my contests got a great responce and included subjective rules.

You're assuming that all the people who enter contests do it only because they want to win. It's far more likely that people enter a contest because it gives them new ideas, personal challenges and drags them out of boredom.
But I do agree that this contest is shit.
Phundamentalists, come to the dark side.

Basically, there are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who know binary, and those who don't.

Re: Bowling Alley
If you look at a bowling pin setup from a side-view, theres only 4 rows. Do you want a side view or top view? and would it be ok to use less pins on a side-view since mainly what you're looking for is a pin setter? I have an older machine I made a while back:
(yes, I realize theres 5 rows in that machine, but all the same: it would seem rather silly to have 10 pins in a line.)

10 pins total from the side, and it must be possible to miss pins and it must beable to reset
