Gear and Chain

Postby mrmegawarrior » Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:57 am

It has always been hard for me to make chains that fit nicely into the gears of a gear, so my idea is to add an option in the gear toolbox to allow you to make 2 gears, 1 after another, both can be different sizes, and after you do that, the game automatically spawns a chain with teeth that fit into the gears that fits snugly around both gears.

With algodoo V1.9.9b The chains can be made to fit C-Gears perfectly. Search algodoo box for Circle gears and you will get generators etc for them. All you have to do is create a custom chain link(s), that fits the gears, using one blue circle two boxes and a red circle, i would make you an example scene but i haven't installed algodoo on the computer im using now.
If you still need help i can mabye whip up an example scene tommorow for you.

You could certainly construct a roller chain from a couple boxes and some C-gear parts. This would require using the Use As Chain button.
Alternatively, you could possibly stick a PHN of two chain segments (a red circle and a blue circle) into the Chains folder, along with an image.
This would allow you to stick it onto any scene.

i advise you look into c-gears :)
alot more stable than polygons (which as you may know, is what algodoo uses for gears...)

maybe just better chain setups?
e.g. instead of just circles:
circle-box-circle,
would be perfect for use on gears!

Three... about to be four... posts in a row suggesting the use of C-gears. Does this win some kind of award?

C-gears run smoother, can go faster, are more stable, can take greater loads, AND don't use collision-failing polygons.

AND Kilinich made a generator for them.

Okay NOW it's four.

But still. C-gears are not too horribly difficult to build a chain for, and they are petter than polygon gears in pretty much every other way.
