Algobots Tournament 2011

Postby Bazinga » Fri Aug 12, 2011 4:19 am

As crytek has stopped his Algobots Tournaments I thought I would re-start this tradition with a simple round.
Here are the requirements:
It has to fit in the green box given.
Must have at least 3 wheels but no more than 5
Must not use the thrust tool (In the new Algodoo 1.9.0b)
No more than 3 chains (or ropes)
Only 2 weapons

Information:
Algobots Tournament is a challenge consisting of 2 teams (Blue and Red) where your Algobots battle it out on the arena. The winning Algobot moves on to the next round competing with the winner of the other round. Please note sometimes the Algobots can battle their own team.

If you submit an Algobot please make sure you write in the description of your scene (Post me the link to the scene) The name of the Algobot and what weapons it consists of.

I will pick the first 4] people to submit their Algobots.

I might also add as a rule that nobody abuses weight. No purposeful overlapping or cloning onto itself for added weight.

What version of Algodoo will the competition be in?

What is the maximum weight limit?

Is there a maximum motor power/speed?

Is "wheel" defined as a circle in contact with the ground?

To what extent may scripting be used?

Is there some sort of arena?

What decides when a bot is beaten by another?

What are the slider limits for friction, restitution etc?

Are wheels the only along allowed way of moving?

Is the bot meant to be automatic?

Does they have be automatic ? Like do we have to put keys to fire ?

I think it's most important that the bots have limited weight, motor torque and number of motor hinges, friction slider values (2) and that it would be most fair if the bots were automatic and in a symmetric arena.

I saw the videos of the battles and it seems bots have weight limits and as Ivan said also friction (and restitution) limits; the arena is symmetric and yes, weapons are automatic :D By the way I suggest these limits:
Density limit: from 1 to 15 kg/m²
Restitution limit: from 0 to 2
Friction limit: from 0 to 1
Attraction limit: from -1 to 3 Nm²/Kg²
Max hinge speed related to wheels colliding with the ground: 50 RPM
Max hinge speed related to everything not colliding with the ground: 200 RPM
Max hinge torque (for both of them): inf
Important rule: the "external shape" of you algobot must collide with A (the collision group of the ground)

Very good. I agree with every of PhunWars' suggestions except the density limit.
Instead of a density limit, i suggest a mass limit (from 1 to 5000 kg) because you can make 100 boxes with the size of 8 m² and density 15 kg/m² and get a 12000 kg bot.
I also suggest to limit the scripting to no scripting neither changing any value in the script menu.

I'd love to participate, but the rules seem kind of vague. In the case of scripting, I agree. At least no scripting that affects the other robot. If it's just for the function of the actual robot, it should be fine.

Well yes that's true Ivan, I didn't think about that :D And about scripting will spawning be allowed ? For guns for example (spawned objects should respect the general rules of restitution attraction etc)

I'd love to participate, but the density limit makes it impossible. It is far too difficult to make something stable that size with such low densities.

It has to be automatic, no scripting, no kill parts, maximum speed for a motor-15, max strength for a motor-9000

A bot is claimed defeated when he falls off the battle platform when hopefully if I get the designs right will release a firework from the ceiling.

Any density is welcomed. Just, don't make it airborne.

The spawned objects could NOT in any way be used as a weapon but may be used to propel the vehicle.

Yes, scripting is allowed to somehow propel the vehicle upright in case it falls over.

I'll post a preview of the arena asap. I need to go to school now so it'll be up in 6-8 hours.

Are you going to modify the OP?

Bazinga wrote:Any density is welcomed. Just, don't make it airborne.

So I could make my bot 10,000,000,000 kg/m2 and that would be allowed by the rules?

15 RPMs ? How do we make like rotating weapons with 15 RPMs ?

Forgive me. :P

RPM is already technically plural, as it stands for Rotations Per Minute.
If you pluralize it from there, you get things like 15 Rotations Per Minute-S, which sounds just wrong.
( That's also why you can't find a tachometer with 'RPMs' written on it. )

:)

@Ravenplucker
Even when a max density is not listed one should use reason in deciding what is too much.
You know full well that that's over-kill and a half, and thus the answer would likely be, 'No.'

No 15 rpm for the wheels/transport device. Your weapon can go up to 100 rpm.

What version of Algodoo will the competition be in?

What is the maximum weight limit?

Does the rpm limit apply to motors, or any rotating part of the robot?

To what extent may scripting be used?
Only as a way or getting the robot off the ground if it's been flipped, or other applications?

What are the slider limits for friction, restitution etc?

Are wheels the only allowed way of moving?

Bazinga wrote:http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details.php?id=56924
There's the template :D

There are two glitching cogwheels in the centre.
And you do realise the maximum allowed size of the robot takes up more than half of the arena, don't you?

Do everybody a favour, and actually plan your contests instead of blindly mashing your face against the keyboard.

Yes, this is true.

Ravenplucker wrote:So I could make my bot 10,000,000,000 kg/m2 and that would be allowed by the rules?

Again, this is true. But your bot's area should be 0.5 mm² to fit the mass limit I set in the previous post (5000 kg).

Bazinga wrote:Even when a max density is not listed one should use reason in deciding what is too much.

The overkill is more then 5000 kg, forget the density.

I don't want to read a word more about density.

Bazinga wrote:Yes, scripting is allowed to somehow propel the vehicle upright in case it falls over.

I support, but no spawning (which increases mass).

I was not talking about the maximum RPM at all, I was talking about pluralizing 'RPM' which is not necessary.
