How do you make a gun?

Postby gameaddictwn » Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:50 pm

I've searched a lot but I have no idea how to make one. Just a simple one-shot rifle will be good enough for me. Where you manually insert the bullet and then close the hatch. Then use the drag tool and pull the trigger and then the bullet fires.
Please can someone help me make a gun like that and maybe a working bullet please?

Use that too.

If you still can't build one, search the algobox, and reverse engineer the 2.5 dozen examples there. Most of the people on this forum learned what they know by reverse engineering scenes.
If you still can't build one then I'll write a tutorial.

In other words, STFA (Search The Freaking Algobox).

Search the Algobox.

Find a scene you like.

Figure out how it works.

I usually don't behave like this, but my brain is tired and I really think this post deserves it. The previous post, I mean.
This one.
Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.
I love my brain...

Due to this, I may not be as active as usual for a while.

Okay... Download that scene. Figure out how it works.

However, I think bouncy bullets would be even easier.

Hey, tell ya what. I will make an interactive tutorial on how to build a gun. I will pre-fabricate some parts, designate points on them where to hinge/attach spring/fixate, and give instructions on how to assemble the pieces, as well as values to give them (density, spring length, restitution, etc.) It will be a single scene to build a bullet and a one-shot, basic bolt-action gun. I will also post responses to that scene that show how to make a magazine, as well as make it semi-automatic, and finally fully-automatic. I may even go so far as to add a special tutorial for a burst-fire mechanism. Sound good?

The concepts for these are simple. What makes everything so hard is stability, reliability, and easy function.
