Tractor Pull Contest (READ DESC!!)

I was unsatisfied with some of the older tractor pulling contests so I finally decided to make my own!

ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES ARE IN THE SCENE!!!!

[EDIT]- I found some mistakes, this is just a quick fix

1- you may change the dampening for your spring engines
2- you may script for your spawn engine

post a comment on anything else I screwed up on this time if you want

the contest is over on june 1st ( but most likely later tha that)

[Edit] 2 - there is going to be a hardcore!! the weight will be 1000 kg!

[Edit] 3 - No Rocket Engines!!!! those are driving me insane!!!!

[EDIT] Scene.my.time in the starting scene already reads 19.97-- might want to fix that...

The code needed is actually on the algobox page. All you need to do is copy it and paste it on the forums...

I might also consider entering if a find a few spare hours between exam "revision" (exams started last week for my school).

Blech, exams are this week @ my school... fortunately, I have art & science exams tomorrow, so I don't have to study too much, hence me having free time right now :P

But, (ahem) what is the function of the geared box springed (???) to the payload?

okay, i was looking at the scene and i have found a few problems...

1. your red light system has no triggering system....
2. no system to stop the timer
3. i suggest you use sim.time for the timer.... The current time is FPS dependant and is compleatly unreliable....

slight rule problem
-Unless changing friction you may not go outside of the sliders

spring engines use negative dampening which cant be selected with the sliders...

the red light system has a trigger and i do understand that i didnt think the dampening problem over,
you may also make a script if your using a spawn engine, i overlooked that too...

where is the trigger to stop the timer???
As i cant see it...

And as i said, you should use sim.time for the timer system. This will result in a timer that is actually accurate...

But what if I put a motor for the starter ? I mean like pressing S a hinge starts rotating, just to give the direction of the rotation (my engine can start without pressing anything, but it can also start backwards !)

I think in your case, you can just set angular velocity of the flywheel. This is known to be buggy, though.

Also... he said spawn engine, so... engine doesn't imply rocket (Proper terms: Rocket motor, Car engine, Jet turbine). Which means I may just pwn y'all with an awesome spring engine.

I actually thought of that too, but decided that if I'm going to make a spawn engine, I might as well use pistons. Or cams... :think:

Does the slider limit apply to spawned objects? Does it apply to airfrictionmult? Right now my engine is a spring/spawn hybrid-- spawning circles gives power in the low-RPM range, and the springs supply the power at the high RPM range. I've found that +inf sim speed is very useful for testing engine reliability very quickly.

Also, can you postpone the ending date? There is only one working entry, and since I will be gone all next week, there is no way I will be able to finish in time... so if you want more competition, I would postpone it.

I will begin working on my cam-spawn engine now. I will add a piece that I don't see in TC42's engine that will probably add a lot more power. This bit comes from Kilinich. I will also use a part of TC42's engine that I see in the thumbnail- the cylinder walls. I didn't think it all the way through. Finally, I will use TC42's idea with a hybrid engine. Only, I will use my spring engine.

What does edit 2 mean ? That I have to add more 200 kg boxes to get 1000 kg ? Or that the tractor mustn't weight over 1000 kg ?

I think he means the tractor must weigh 1000KG.

Also, is there any response to using sim.time for the timer?

As I said, your current timer is FPS dependant and is 100% unreliable due to the fact that FPS is severly affected by multiple things.

it means that there is going to be a hardcore where the weight will be replaced with a 1000kg block
