1.9.4 beta-tester nightmare

If you have problems installing or running Algodoo, have found a bug or need in-game help - this is it!

1.9.4 beta-tester nightmare

Postby Kilinich » Tue May 24, 2011 5:33 pm

Sorry, but I must admit that beta is much worse than I expect...

A whole lot of new bugs in every area from scripts to visualisation, very few old bugs fixed, new ugly interface (again).
I've get used to expandibles since "expand all" button was added ;) and now this.

Shortly what I've dig:
none of my scene works
    objects disappearing
    laser events not working
    keyboard controlled motors not working
    geometry controller not working
buggy interface with too big buttons
displaying bugs like no jpg textures and spring joints on top
Summary: totally unusable version

The good thing is:
    Great script performance, outstanding results!
Thrusters is just like what we always want, thanks.
New "solver" is really good - ropes and unstretchable hinges, better springs.
Summary: great potential

So... I have nothing to do but wait until next update...
Dream of Algodoo as game development engine...

I said last week that this maybe the worst release so far (to me its not usable) but I can see that where they are going with it maybe awesome in the long run.

I guess so. If you tried to report the bugs you've (indubitably) found, it would probably crash this website due to massive file size. So, yeah...

Once Algoryx gets to v2.0, I'm sure it will be awesome. But I'm afraid that it has to get worse before it can get better...

A lot of changes has been done behind the scenes, so to speak, and that is why some weird bugs show up.
However, this means we really need the feedback to get it polished.
So thank you!

And please provide method to reproduce any bugs that you stumble upon.

I don't think v1.9.4 is bad because v1.9.4 is just a beta.
However, I'd like Algoryx to release beta more frequently. Or, I'd like to get frequent comment for my post (bug reports/suggestions) from developers. ;)

Yeah, sorry about that.
We most often try to fix a bug before moving on to the next,
and the texture bug has taken a lot of time since the cause of the problem has been hard to track down.

I hope I get reactions from developer when next beta takes a lot of time to release.
Do you know how many time I've posted bug_reports/suggestions and how many time I've got reply from developer for this beta?

Bug reports:
1.9.4 English translation missing...
1.9.4 Selection menu deselect [Follow] automatically
1.9.4 Selection menu moves camera pos
1.9.4 Console command is hidden
1.9.4 Loading translation file issue for loading message.
1.8.5 Scale tool circle to polygon issue
[1.9.4]Chain tool hinge attaches strange pos
[1.9.4]Chain explosion

Suggestions:
[1.9.4]Translate "chain" and "rope"

Anyway, I was very attracted by this release. =)

No, I'm afraid not yet.
Joel is the linux developer, try sending him a message,
however, I have already sent him the message you sent me about the shortcut.
Unfortunately, he has a lot on his table at the moment, since the bugs in 1.9.4 must be fixed.

A couple times, I put my laptop in standby, and when I opened it up, Algodoo looked a lot like what the no-shader bug might.
All I had to do was re-load the skin.
Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

Recently, I discovered something a lot of you probably already knew: Minecraft is awesome.
Due to this, I may not be as active as usual for a while.

The texture bug has finally been fixed for all the computers we could test it on.

Good. I will see if this fixes the standby texture problem. It's really just more annoying than anything else, but is, after all, annoying.

Same here. I have a older pc which i dont use much as it is fairly slow and my mum uses it... , but i would like algodoo on it as it is a good time "waster" :D

When the next version is uploaded, i will test it on two graphics cards:
Nvidea 320mx (or something like that)
intel G31 (embeded graphics card on my main pc)
