1.9.4 Scenelet bug

Postby Sonic » Tue May 10, 2011 1:55 am

If you try to import an old phunlet that was saved from a previous version of Algodoo it will open it up as a new scene.

Saving is also a bit ---,
1. how to properly name it staying in algodoo??
2. how to save it in a folder other then the phunlets folder? (for organizing loads of phunlets, kinda hard to recognize them as dropped_00xx, etc.)

:problem:

Yes, I noticed that too. I ended up saving it in a scene, so I can later open that scene and copy-paste the phunlet.

It works, but it is also just about the worst method possible, aside from what there already is.

When you drop something onto the Scenelet button, it should open up the Save Scene menu, with the directory by default already set to Phunlets. Or whatever the default Scenelet directory is.

Oddly enough, the directory is called phunlets, when the name (inside algodoo) has been changed to scenelets...?

I think.

I think they have kept the old folder name to stop the "HELP, ALL MY PHUNLETS ARE MISSING" topics...
although it would be good if setup renamed the phunlets folder to scenelets or if algodoo would just read from the phunlets folder.

We have planned to add a rename and a delete button to both the scene browser and the scenelet browser.
A create folder and delete folder button might also be useful, I'll look into it.

Someone Else wrote:When you drop something onto the Scenelet button, it should open up the Save Scene menu, with the directory by default already set to Phunlets. Or whatever the default Scenelet directory is.

This might be difficult to do, but I'll look into that as well.

Edit:
Oh I understood you wrong Someone Else, we though about putting a "Select name of scenelet"-dialog when dropping a scenelet in the scenelet browser, but we want it to be quick to work with scenelets, so that you can go in and change the name of the scenelet later, but the image alone will often be enough.

Scenelets can even be dropped on the scenelet browser button, but the browser will be opened, and the question is if that is the wanted behavior.

I'm not sure if you understand me correctly. I want the Save Phunlet dialog box from previous versions of Algodoo to come up when you drop something into the Scenelet button. This way, you can give your scenelet a name, author, and description.

We thought about bringing up a dialog box when dropping a scenelet, but decided that working with scenelets should be fast.
The idea was that the name of the scenelet could be set after, if needed, but the image is most often enough.
Renaming scenes and scenelets are however not yet implemented, but we have planned to do it before the release.

There should be an option as to whether you want scenelets to be fast or precice.
The default can be fast, but I want there to be a way to make it always ask me what I want to call the scenelet, who made the scenelet, the description of the scenelet...

And I want hinges to be called hinges.

I actually thought about it myself, but never managed to bother to do it.

But I can't wait until it's done.

And I hope we can persuade Algoryx to implement it.

Yay! Thank you!

However, I will now upload that same exact file- hingefix.cfg- in a ZIP file for a hopefully smaller download. Still, 73 kilobytes in sot that big. Hmm... I will also include the texture for a hinge, so the translation will actually have an icon.

I also fixed a few other things.
