[1.9.4] Thruster bug

Postby TC42 » Sun May 22, 2011 3:10 pm

I tried to make a box that resisted gravity by using a thruster. So first, I created a box, which had a mass of 8 kg. Multiply 8 x 9.8 to get 78.4 newtons. Then I created a thruster an the center of gravity of the box that points downward and doesn't follow geom rotation, with a force of exactly 78.4 newtons. Bug: the box is pushed upward by the force of the thruster, when it should not have moved. The force that didn't make the box move (the exact inverse of the force of gravity) was 78.008. Is this the result of rounding errors?

Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

Ah, it works without air... but why would air affect it? It isn't moving at high speed, so air friction shouldn't matter, and I don't recall that algodoo has air pressure...

Air buoyancy. Make a box with 0.001 density and see for yourself.

Whoops, forgot about that... tsk, I wish that we would have learned physics that factor in air. It would have made my science class so much more interesting. But I digress. Sorry for the false alarm
