Physion - Algodoo's Main Competition.
Link to the original thread.
This is huge people. Algodoo now has direct competitor, a new program called "Physion". I just joined up and this looks like it will be a great program. 100% free, too. Link.
There is also videos on YouTube about it: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Physion&aq=f
The engine of this program looks really great. I can see support for textures, scripting language and even ability to change background.
Your thoughts please!
P.S. I repost here in "Algodoo Related" because only few visit the Living Room.

Doesn't the living room count for like 51% of all posts?

Bah, humbug.
The Physion interface looks like a crap, I'll be sticking with algodoo for now...
I'm glad to see algoryx getting some competition. Maybe it will force them to bump it up a notch, so to speak.

I agree precisely with everything TC42 just said.
The GUI is terrible, so I'm sticking with Algodoo, but hopefully Algoryx will now be more inclined to come out with newer versions, faster.
However, I do like the idea of:

However, I do like the idea of:
- The Rod Tool- likely coming in 1.9.0.
- The Piston Tool- I've always supported this.
- The Pulley Tool- Aha, who'da thunk it. Still sounds awesome though.
- The Shatter Geom thing.
Matthias Wandel is epic, in my humble opinion.

Hmmm... now that I've actually tried out Physion, I find it really irritating. You can't move things with the sim paused, the scripting doesn't auto-check, and the interface is impossible. Also, there's no fix-joints. However, I will try to stick with it and learn the interface... and it's still in v1.00. So far, I have found it impossible to make something that is controlled via keyboard. However, you do have access to the xy coords...
Clearly, someone has been reading the suggestions forum here... there are pistons in Physion.
So it seems to me that Physion is more scripting orientated, even though scripting is nearly impossible because there is no known documentation. But hey, the site admin is very knowledgeable and active.
My rating: 6.5/10
The interface needs some work, but it seems to be gathering a good community, and looks promising once it has been improved upon.
So Emil, you're safe for now...

...but you'd best get some work done. Soon.
TC42, what's your current attitude toward pistons, now that you've actually tried them?
Remember FLB's piston topic?
My idea of a Piston Menu:
The maximum length, by default, would be twice as long as the distance between the two anchor points. The minimum length would be on the same scale as the maximum length and would be set to zero.
The ----|-- is, of course, a slider,
The ### is the spot where you would input a key,
The X, of course, removes the key,
And the O is a checkbox.
Note that this does not include any spring options. You must get your own spring, like in Physion.

No - do not turn this into a topic about pistons. Pistons are a stupid idea, make them yourself or discuss this elsewhere.

Re: Physion - Algodoo's Main Competition.
Okay fine. I will not mention pistons again except when stating how much Algodoo needs them.
I say those Physion people have the right idea pistonwise.

Too raw for my taste (especially with a new Algodoo update coming). Lots of basic limitations with Physion, but it looks like something that will be worth checking into every now and then over the next few months. It's got a long way to go before it's able to compete with Phun.
