Record movies with phun - WITHOUT external tool!!
Yes the basic movie makin function is still in there!!
just use
-> System.regularScreenshots = 1
to record a screenshot every tick! after that you can use any free movie makin tool to fuse the screenshots together to one movieclip! this way you can easily record VERY complex scenes in the background and make a smooth movie afterwards.
i did a quicksearch and found a shareware tool that can make a movie from jpg's and other image formats: http://www.brothersoft.com/jpgavi-17340.html
there are probably several more tools out there, some of them freeware

thats awesome. i think i'll try this tomorrow
i copied this code into the console so now i have a key combo to turn it on and off
CTRL + ALT + R - Toggle recording On/Off
- Code: Select all
Keys.bind("ctrl alt R",{ System.regularScreenshots == 0 ? {System.regularScreenshots = 1} : {System.regularScreenshots = 0} })

So all you do is type system screenshots = 1 into the console and bam you got a butt load of screenshots and from there you turn it into a movie

C:\Documents and Settings\peter\My Documents\Algodoo\screenshots
copy and paste into console "~"
To start recording
copy and paste into console "~"
To stop recording.
Although KarateBrot's code is far more superior.

Wow, pixartist, how did you make all that water not lag!? Do you just have a supercomputer, or something else?

no it took him about 20 minutes to run the simulation. every timestep a screenshot will be taken and if you make a video out of it with 100 frames per second (because of 100Hz simulation frequency) it will look completely smooth.

Will it be cross-platform? Would I be able to use it on mac? If not that's fine, my current screenrecorder, screenflow, gets a pretty good fps.

I don't see why you guys are so happy about this. All I see is Algodoo taking a bunch of pictures, saving them to my hard drive, then me having to download an EXTERNAL tool to put them ALL together into a movie, then having to delete the hundreds, maybe even thousands of pictures that Algodoo just saved. Not very revolutionary.

Well at least you get the exact frames of the simulation instead of whatever FPS you would get with a screenrecorder. :/

Okay if you wanna be a *** about it, did you read the title? It says RECORD WITHOUT EXTERNAL TOOL... not convert without external tool. If you don't like this feature, then either make a better suggestion or GET THE *** OUT

Your not recording movies, your taking pictures. The movie recording takes place using the external tool, you aren't recording anything using this method, just taking snapshots. But by request from the author, I shall now leave.

But it sure does work!
And I don't see why it's so hard to get an external tool to put it all together. The hell, you can even use WMM for it. Either you are really lazy, or just plain stupid.

Re: Record movies with phun - WITHOUT external tool!!
The point he's trying to make is that if you have to use an external tool to put the images together, you might as well just use an external program to record it, as it's actually easier and less time consuming than the method proposed in this thread. The only use I can thing of for this is for recording incredibly laggy scenes at a viewable framerate. Other than that, Laroso is completely right. And he also presented his opinion much more maturely than pixarist, who turned to childish insults and overly defensive behavior towards an almost imminent response from the first logical person to find this thread. I would have posted the same thing if I found this thread sooner. They say the true colors of a person are shown in times of hardship, and I believe the same can be said for forum behavior. The true colors of a person are shown in his responses to controversial opinions, and pixarist has shown everyone today that he's just an immature little boy with a temper tantrum and a lack of basic civilized communication skills. I reported your post, but based on the lack of moderation lately, I'm certain it will be ignored.

When I record videos for Algodoo/Phun, the result always comes out crappy. Frames skipping, low quality etc. So this actually proves much better for me.

Really? What program do you use? Fraps works perfectly fine for me.

Just set fraps to nosync. I have recorded crysis videos with thousands of barrals and vehicles exploding using fraps, all without lag in video

but with thousands of water particles (for example 10,000) in phun you can't record the scene in 100% realtime because it lags. but if you get screenshots on every frame it looks like 100% realtime after you make a movie of it.
