Can't get over the libcv dependencies
Hello,
I'm trying to install Algodoo demo on two platforms:
1) Linux Mint 9 Isadora 32bit
2) Linux Ubuntu 10.10 64bit
For the 1st one I tried both 32bit deb packages, and both had dependencies on libcv1 or libcv2, and there's no clear way how to resolve them, because I see only libcv4 in the synaptic. I'm somewhat worried about messing up my system with older libcv, because it depends on other old version packages (libavutil49), etc, etc. Pssible solution could be running from the GZ package, but it also doesn't contain the dependent files: libhighgui.so.1, libavutil.so.49.
For the 2nd platform I tried to install that 64bit deb package, and it also has that libcv1 dependency. What would be the suggested method of solving that dependency?
Am I doing this all wrong that those dependency problems get into way? When I test-installed Algodoo on Linux Mint 10.10, it installed with no problems whatsoever. Kind of strange to see that, when there are so many problems with Ubuntu 10.10 and Mint 9 - all those are closely related platforms.

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
try running "sudo apt-get update"
Then install the debian package.
If you get nowhere, try searching :
packages.ubuntu.com/
for the missing packages.
I will have a better look into this when i have finished work.

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
Well, nothing else than this (Ubuntu 10.10 64bit, installing Algodoo_1_7_1-Linux64.deb)
$ sudo dpkg -i Algodoo_1_7_1-Linux64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package algodoo.
(Reading database ... 241974 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking algodoo (from Algodoo_1_7_1-Linux64.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of algodoo:
algodoo depends on libcv1; however:
Package libcv1 is not installed.
algodoo depends on libcvaux1; however:
Package libcvaux1 is not installed.
algodoo depends on libhighgui1; however:
Package libhighgui1 is not installed.
algodoo depends on libzip1; however:
Package libzip1 is not installed.
algodoo depends on libglew1.5; however:
Package libglew1.5 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing algodoo (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
algodoo
Ok, let's assume I can go now shopping for binary files for those missing packages. And the packages those missing packages require. Where should I copy them to mess up the package system? Since the DEB install failed, system now thinks it must remove the Algodoo. Perhaps there is some preferred way how to get the missing packages, via synaptic. But simple synaptic search does not reveal them, maybe I have to add some exotic repository to get them?

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
thats your problem.
You are trying to install algodoo 1.7.1 in which the dependencies are broken in ubuntu 10.**
Algodoo 1.8.5 will install perfectly in ubuntu 10.10
you will have to manually download the dependencies from packages.ubuntu.com/ but it can be a pain in the ass to install.
May i ask, why are you trying to install 1.7.1 and not 1.8.5?

That's the best version there is for 64bit Linux.

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
best you can do is manually find and install the packages needed from the site i said above or either install 1.8.5

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
I had the same problem, download the tgz file (of Algodoo), There should be a folder containing all of the libs. It wants libwhatever.1, in the folder there should be libwhatever.2 or 3 or 4. Rename it libwhatever.1. That should work.
Now, if you want Algodoo 1.8.5, Do the thing I just told you, but to the tgz of 1.8.5, But It should say libcurl-gnutls is missing, but it's not. So go to packages.ubuntu.com (For the ubuntu one) and download it, but the 32bit one, and download getlibs http://usablesoftware.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/getlibs-all-deb.pdf (rename it as a deb file) then install it. Once it's installed, run getlibs -i ~/Downloads/libcurl (hit tab to finish the filename, I don't remember what it's called). And now 32bit Algodoo should be working.

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
he wants 64 bit algodoo running.
If he was willing to use the 32-bit version he could use 1.8.5 which installs fine.
If i manage to get on the pc later i will get all the needed deb files for you and upload them.

He can't use the 32bit version, he's using 64bit. Besides, I told him how to get the 64bit version running. Right here:

Re: Can't get over the libcv dependencies
32 bit programs work on 64bit computers (but require a few packages to be installed when in linux)
and i think he wants a proper install of it, the method you listed will have to have a folder that he would have to go into to run.
and the method i am suggesting will work for both his OS's without any problems and will result in a cleaner setup.
repositorys to add to your sources.list or software sources
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy-updates multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-security main restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-security universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-security multiverse
This should pick-up all the needed libs.
p.s. this won't interfere with your current sources, the latest version of files will be prefair and will only use the hardy rep's in the event it is nat avaliable in your default reps.
