Winston's badass dad.
Say hello to Winston's Dad!
One question though. He shakes. He keeps on shaking from the pressures of the internal motors. Is there any way to reduce this?
And also, is there a better way to raise the roof? (hehehe)
It's just that it seems a little unstable right now.
The real reason I posted though was because I wanted to draw attention to my scene.
Comments would be helpful, if you could.

Re: Winston's badass dad.
EPICNESS.
You can reduce the shaking by making some high-stress parts heavier, such as one of the tabs on the gizmo that activates the state-change.

If the two [ ] boxes are light, they will overlap a lot.
But if one is also heavy, it will not make much difference on the total weight, but will cut down on shaking a lot.
This trick also works with hinges.
Oh, and I think you should apply for Paradigm.
EDIT- one more thing. I would suggest making all the controls all the WSAD or all the arrows- Left, Right, Unbrake, Deploy/Mobilize.
EDIT-
I changed the controls a bit and added some turrets made from modified restitution rockets.
Left/right move left/right, down brakes (no autobrake), up deploys/un-deploys, A and S fire the cannons. The bullets do not explode, when they hit something pure red- the restitution box- their collision layers change to A and their density to 100.
Oddly enough, there is almost no recoil.
I will work on exploding bullets tomorrow.

What do you mean "apply for Paradigm"? Is he some sort of secret club?
Ahh, so put the brake control on toggle? That's a rather good idea!

Paradigm is probably the best scene maker out there.

Re: Winston's badass dad.
If Paradigm is an applied position, I made it up yesterday, or whenever I posted that. And applying for it/him was intended to be a joke.
And, come to think of it, putting the brakes on toggle is a good idea.
And I still have not gotten around to exploding bullets.
And ... um ... I forgot.
Oh yeah, I think your lid-raising design is INGENIOUS. It seems that it is very stable. It would also help if it was possible to leave the roof and walls up upon mobilization. Basically, allow the pistons that are connected to the feet to move independently of the sides.
And if you're going to do that, a door might help.

Re: Winston's badass dad.
Exploding bullets aren't a problem, the phenomenal lag they would generate would be though. I can't wait until they implement multithreading in Algodoo.
I'm not going to do that, then it just turns into a portable-house-machine, as opposed a self-armouring-thing. And also, the roof can pivot on each of the joints to the sides, that's what allows it to fold up on the top of the machine, so that would be another hurdle to overcome if I wanted the structure to become free standing.

Re: Winston's badass dad.
No, just set one key to toggle the legs and another to toggle the roof/walls. It's not free-standing.
Basically, it would be able to hold its position with the lid folded down or keep the lid up when moving.
A door might just be a trapdoor in the roof.
And I just got an idea for making the lid thing detachable- hold it in place with a modified version of my latest modular spaceship coupler. Maybe take off the moving-bar thing on the lid/capsule part and mirror one side. That way, it would lock in automatically and would be unlocked by key control.
Will work on it. Really.
EDIT- Hmm, that thing compresses so much complexity into such a small space, I cannot figure it out. If you could build s version with the chassis (legs, their trigger, wheels, suspension) completely separate from the lid (walls, their independent trigger, roof) I could incorporate my mouse-controlled docking mechanism, so it would hold itself in place until you tell it to release. And I might create a docking station, so you could snap the lid/capsule onto some overhead structure.
Maybe even a MOBILE docking station.
In the mean time, MARBLE MULTIPLICATION!!!!

I'll get onto that after I complete my self-building tower
EDIT
Finally finished it! Hurruh!

In a comment for the self-building tower, I wrote:As always, EPICNESS.
I consider myself to be Phundamentalist-Thymechanic, meaning that I usually prove something can be done mechanically before Thyming it to reduce lag, but not always.
@mrmegawarrior's first comment on this scene- Thank you, but no. We do have completely different styles. I just use the default palette, then usually move fixates, hinges, and tracers to front.
@Ravenplucker's last comment- Open the console with ~ or F11.
Type: sim.frequency
Press enter/return.
This shows the current and default values for sim.frequency.
Type: sim.frequency = 10000.
BEHOLD THE LAG.
Hope this helps.
Oh, and this would be even more epic if it was not triggered by destroy key and it was somehow retractable. Maybe angle the top of the stilt bars so they self-align when pushed into the machine hard enough, push them straight down directly from the top and use the ratchet thing to pull them back up.
But still, You, Ravenplucker, are a mechanical genius.
Are you working on separating the moon-crawler? So I can dock-o-fy it? Or are you dock-o-fy-ing it yourself?
And mutual killers can be used to trigger something where you could destroy a fixate. Motorize a killer that is autobraked, so when activated it kills a killer that is fixated to the disc to be released and the frame. The killers kill each other.
Wow, that last sentence barely makes sense to me. Or you could use a motorized tab thing, so you could stop the ascent mid-way. Then, maybe, knock it down to move off and set up again somewhere?

I can't be bothered currently, I'm working on a mechanical production line that fills canisters with liquid and then caps them.
And mutual killers can be used to trigger something where you could destroy a fixate. Motorize a killer that is autobraked, so when activated it kills a killer that is fixated to the disc to be released and the frame. The killers kill each other.

Wow...but I agree that that almost made sense.
What I mean is (in more basic English) You can fixate a box to the disc and the frame to hold the disc in place, right?
Then you can kill that fixated box to release that disc, right?
And if two non-immortal killers touch, they both get killed, right?
I make sense now, right?

If you had put it like that in the first place I would have understood.
I already knew that though, I just though it was a little pointless since it would be one use anyway.

Re: Winston's badass dad.
The main reason I don't like mirrors and destruction is that you have to undo each individually. And sometimes, I don't even realize that I undid a destruction instead of a simStart. Usually, however, I undo a drag instead of a simStart.
In any case, I would probably use motorized tabs instead of destroyable fixates or fixated killers.
You know, like what you used on Winston and his dad.

Gotta agree with that. I spent ages trying to figure out how to make the tower go back down again until I found that it wasn't meant to

I used them on Winston and his dad because they were repeatable actions. For I once-only I honestly don't see the point.

I seriously would use those tabs instead of either once-only action. Personally, I would set the tab motor to front-back toggle.
To see what I mean, make a box.
Put a hinge on it.
Select the hinge and make its forward key A, toggle.
Press A.
Make the back key A, toggle.
Press the spacebar.
Press A repeatedly. The motor should alternate direction each press, and oscillate rapidly if you hold A.
This way, you could stop the ascent at any point. Just press enter again.
