RAM allocation.

If you have problems installing or running Algodoo, have found a bug or need in-game help - this is it!

RAM allocation.

Postby ImaPirate » Sat Jan 15, 2011 4:25 pm

Is there a command to allocate more ram for Algodoo?
I am frequently getting an 'Out of Ram' message from the appliaction.

Sys specs:
AMD Phenom II 1055t ( X6 ) @ 3.77Ghz,
8gigs of OCZ ram at 1600Mhz,
Nvidia GTX 460, 1024mb. 900mhz core clock, 4000 mem

[Edit]

I found Resources.vramUsage
It's current value is 73598393.
I presume that is in kilobytes. (?)
Would this be what I want to change?

[Another Edit]
That is definitely not what I want to change. :P

what OS have you got?

Also, open task manager and see if you have any programs taking up alot of ram.

I'm in Win7 at the moment, but could boot into Linux and try it there. I don't have the full version installed in Linux though.

And I've already checked RAM usage, I'd be an idiot not to. ;)
Algodoo never appears to take over a gig and a half of ram.
The fact that it's been crashing on several basic scenes is also something that catches my interest.
It does not appear to get rid of the stuff loaded from the previous scenes until restarted. ( Which would be a logical thing to do, would it not? )

I can run extremely complex simulations in Autodesk inventor, or run lightmass for six hours without any issues. So this has got me lost. :/

yeah, i think algodoo has a ram limit.
And are you sure that you have no programs running in the background?

i doubt you'd get the error message in linux, what distro and version is it?

Have you checked that you have the latest drivers for you system?
You seam like you know what your doing with computers but we all forget to update stuff every now and again...

I have quite recent drivers for most everything. I have the latest video drivers. Sound drivers are not the latest but don't seem to be conflicting with anything. I've had my sound drivers break my video drivers on my old box..
( If it ain't broke don't fix it )

As I've said, I've checked RAM usage. I generally have at least three gigs free, and Algodoo only seems to take around a gig. Give or take a few hundred megs.
I can't picture it sucking back almost 8. :P

I think it is simply an issue where Algodoo is not allocating as much RAM as it could. Which is why I was hoping there would be a command to tell it to take more. It can have 6 gigs for all I care.
